Hi all,

We've got one PC here that has an odd problem!

If you insert a DVD into the drive, it appears in explorer as "DVD-ROM" but doesn't list any more information about the disk (size/disc name etc). If you try to open the disc it says the drive is empty please insert a disc...

I've uninstalled and reinstalled the drivers, still the same issue. I then tried a USB DVD drive and it has exactly the same symptoms. I know this drive works fine as I tested it on my PC in the office with no issues.

Strange thing is if I go into VLC and open disc from here, it is able to play the DVD...

Any ideas?

Kind regards,

J

Will look in to this - it's in an OU with several other machines. Have tried several different accounts including local and still brings up the same issue. Other PCs are in use so have to wait! :(

Would be an idea to make a full backup of this registry key before following the guide(s) but I would say to Remove the upper and lower filters and reboot windows , something along the lines of this :

The CD drive or the DVD drive does not work as expected on a computer that is running Windows Vista

Also If you have any other applications ( multiple ) that use the optical drive for burning discs etc then maybe remove all of these programs before hand ie imgburn / deep burner / nero / cd burner xp etc and then follow the guide on removing the upper and lower filters and reboot and try again

Found this MS KB as well :
