Promoting a 2012 R2 server to a DC on a 2003 domain functional level

Has anyone had any issues or does anyone know of any issues of promoting a 2012 R2 server to a DC in which the domain is running at a 2003 domain functional level ? ( And it will be for some time to come yet )

No issues and I've done it on many systems.

I'm guessing you have some DCs stuck on Server 2003 for that to be the case. Any desperate reason?

Both Domain and Forest functional levels need to be 2003 as a minimum.
