jonnykewell1 Posted March 30, 2015 Posted March 30, 2015 oh so they've increased the speed of their services these days?
Renfield-64 Posted April 28, 2015 Posted April 28, 2015 I have set up all of our teacher iPads with their own account, around 50 devices now. I enrolled in the VPP and yesterday bought our first app for a teacher. I have a redeemable code but when we go to download the app on the iPad there is nowhere to enter the code, only the option to buy it. Has anyone been able to do this?
HC_Netman Posted April 28, 2015 Posted April 28, 2015 @Renfield-64 Are you using an MDM? We use Meraki and it allows you to enter the redeemable code when you assign the apps - this then allows the end user to just install them.
Renfield-64 Posted April 28, 2015 Posted April 28, 2015 Hi, No I am not using any management system. Just want to let people install them manually.
biz Posted April 28, 2015 Posted April 28, 2015 @Renfield-64 in that case I'm led to believe your users can redeem the code in the same way you would redeem an iTunes Gift Card - either in iTunes on a Mac/PC or in the App Store on an iPad - there is a 'redeem' link near the bottom.
HC_Netman Posted April 28, 2015 Posted April 28, 2015 OK I am not sure then - I thought these codes were designed for distribution through some form of management tool - even if it is just Apple Configurator. Have you tried just going to Redeem Code in the app store? (Scroll to the bottom of the 'Featured' page) I don't know if this will work but you could try entering the code here.
Brimstone Posted April 28, 2015 Posted April 28, 2015 Hi, No I am not using any management system. Just want to let people install them manually. Using this each users Apple ID will now own the app you have sent to them and that app can not be reused, if the teacher leaves the school they can sign in with the same Apple ID and download content purchased by the school, not a good idea unless they are making a contribution. If you want users to be able to use the redeem code there is a link at the bottom of the iPad App store window where they can enter this code, codes or the iTunes url can be emailed to them

On the VPP store there are 2 types of codes; Apple Configurator, uses redemption codes in a downloadable spreadsheet that you import into configurator, if the iPads are supervised the apps can be removed from the iPad and the code can be reused. MDM - Uses managed distribution licences which are again purchased via VPP , each iPad or user requires a unique Apple ID, you need to download the token from VPP and paste this into your chosen MDM to link to two of them. Users are invited into Managed Distribution, once they accept you can now push out and revoke apps at will.
