Yeah... I've got a feeling that because I didn't purchase my iPads from Apple direct that I might have an issue. The documentation says this

Step 3: Assign devices. You can assign devices to your virtual MDM servers by order number or by serialnumber. Only eligible devices will be available for assignment to your MDM server on the programmewebsite. You can search for orders you placed directly with Apple after 1 March 2011, by order or by serialnumber. If you’ve placed orders from a participating Apple Authorised Reseller, your look-back period willbe at the discretion of the reseller.

I guess it depends on who you bought them from, when you bought them and their 'look-back' period?

interesting. Mine were from a reseller. I haven't tried to set it up yet... I'm currently drooling over LearnPads so I'm a bit distracted!!! Hahahah.

Haha - have fun with those then! I shall put it to the back of the queue again for a bit and open the box of Chromebooks... ooh, choices choices.

We have the DEP in Canada/USA and unless you buy the iPads directly from Apple you can't add them to your DEP. You can still supervise devices you didn't purchase from apple using configurator, but you can't enroll them the same way with the Meraki MDM.

DEP devices with Meraki MDM is really slick. They enroll themselves in the setup process.

DEP is now live in the UK as well, for your existing devices you will need to check whether the reseller you bought them from is a registered DEP reseller most ASE's have already done this , but if they are not there is no way to enroll devices in DEP.

Hi Joanne is there an e-mail address for this? I need to create 15 itunes accounts. I've made the 15 e-mail accounts for meraki to send the invitation to but now I need the itunes accounts. This a real headache!

We might be but i've put that much leg work into setting up Meraki I'm a little reluctant to leave it now and setup again. Did apple do bulk account creation for you too or just add you to the whitelist?

They never got back to me, so I still have just the 1 apple ID.

DEP will incorporate Meraki, so no need to worry about that! It should just take the apple configurator requirement out!

Sorry yes I was told about this now that you mention it. I'll have to have a word and see who they bought the Ipad's off. Going to set 1 account up myself now just to see how it goes and hopefully they will do the rest.

One additional thing. Once i've create the accounts and I press the meraki invite, I get taken into itunes. I log in and then need to add credit card information in. Do I have to do this? I only wan't it to be approved to accept licences bought from the VPP account.

I've always had the 'none' option for payment... I think...

Go into itunes click on a free app to purchase, sign in with the new account and the none option should be there *I think*

This is going off something I think I read once a couple of months ago!

I read somewhere even if you create apple ids from the main website you can still get the none option but it's more of a hit and miss. Create an Apple ID and then go to ITunes old version 11, click redeem (important) enter username and password, it will take you to the form with none option. I found if you click on account it will not work, only clicking 'redeem' option works. Point to be noted, this doesn't work all the time. I usually give it a few hours break and try again and it works. Done 150 different accounts (hard work I tell ya)...

With regards the None option, I spoke to Apple support yesterday about this as one of our students got herself muddled and I couldn't find any working routine that let me use None.

In a nutshell, if the email address being used for the iTunes account already matches an existing Apple ID, it won't let you select None. I'm not quite sure what happens when you create the Apple ID during iPad setup because this does let you select None when you get into iTunes - presumably it is marked as a fresh account until it has been verified once somehow.

Anyway, the official solution that Apple guided me through yesterday was to sign into appleid.apple.com, edit the email address on the account to a dummy address (note this account will not be used from this point forward) so that the actual address you want no longer exists in Apple world; then go to the App Store on iPad and attempt to download a free app - it will prompt you to create a NEW account using the email address you had originally - this works and creates a new account with None billing.

Takes about a week for Apple to ring you, then they ring your verifier following day, then you should get an email with 24 hours - except mine hasn't arrived yet.
