Thank you both. That's a good idea for a 2 week grace period and after that they're on their own. We don't have to charge them at all, we're happy to give them away, my head thought we had to charge something but maybe that's not the case?

Hi all Forgive me if this is really in the wrong place on here, but we're looking to donate some of our older Chromebooks to some of our more vulnerable children. We won't be asking for them back. I think we'd need some sort of agreement where they contribute a very small amount and buy them off us. Does anyone else know? Or can think of anything else we should be mindful of? I imagine in the agreement we should state that they won't be replaced by us if they break, we are not responsible for their maintenance (or your child while they use it) etc. Thanks!

That's frustrating. As soon as I put it in my Staff Allowed URLs list it gets through. Weird!

That is blocked for me, in the Adult Sites, Movies and Film category.

Smoothwall blocking Gmail for a single user
Tammie replied to Tammie's topic in Internet Related/Filtering/Firewall
It was nothing to do with Smoothwall in the end. It eventually stopped loading on her Chromebook too, so I was told to delete the mail/u/0/ bit of the URL. It loaded fine after that on all her devices. I guess Smoothwall was blocking it because it wasn't loading properly? -
Smoothwall blocking Gmail for a single user
Tammie replied to Tammie's topic in Internet Related/Filtering/Firewall
Sorted! -
Hello all Before Christmas a staff member's Gmail wasn't loading properly on some occasions and on others Smoothwall was blocking it, saying it was pornography. Turned out she had 13k+ emails and when we deleted them and reinstalled Chrome, all was well. Now another user on the same PC has the same issue - Gmail not loading, or when it does, it gets blocked by Smoothwall. I've checked she was signed into Chrome (she was), signed her out and in again, signed her out, uninstalled Chrome, reinstalled it, signed her in ... no difference. I can sign in to my Chrome/Gmail account on her PC (on her windows account too) with no issue. No-one else has reported a problem. She can't sign into Chrome/Gmail on another PC either. Chromebook is fine. Anyone got any ideas? TIA

Hello all We've had a problem with our Chromebooks since the Chrome OS 70 update, namely that the Smoothwall https certificate that used to be deployed via the G Suite admin console is no longer working, ie all updated Chromebooks can't do anything without a privacy error. After much testing, I can get the same certificate from smoothwall/modules/guardian3/mitm/ and install that manually, which fixes it. It's the same certificate as in the admin console, so I know it's not a problem with the certificate already in there. At the moment I'm doing them one by one as they update ... we have 250 odd. I'm not even sure if it's a Smoothwall problem or a G Suite problem. Anyone else have the same issue? TIA

Removing Scratch from Online Games category
Tammie replied to Tammie's topic in Internet Related/Filtering/Firewall
Thanks for your reply - yes it is. Allowed URLs is 8.1, Blocked URLs is 8.2, Blocked Categories is 8.3. -
Hi all I'm sure there is a help article somewhere, but I can't find it! Scratch is being blocked where previously it wasn't, and I thought I'd just put it in Students Allowed URLs, but it's already in there. Is there any way I can reclassify it as not an online game, or is there something else I should be doing? TIA

Password protected PDFs through Google Docs
Tammie replied to Tammie's topic in Data Protection & Information Handling
Yeah, we might just have to do the same ... Usually documents that might require passwords are ones sent outside our organisation (medical, SEN info etc), they're all Office 365. -
Password protected PDFs through Google Docs
Tammie replied to Tammie's topic in Data Protection & Information Handling
Thanks - we use Google Docs rather than Word and then we download the Google Docs as PDFs. You don't have that ability within Google Docs (I don't think). It's a real shame ... -

That's a good point too, thanks. -
Password protected PDFs through Google Docs
Tammie replied to Tammie's topic in Data Protection & Information Handling
Thanks TH, you're right, I should have said PDF, not Google Doc. We use Google Docs here and we would like to be able to send PDFs that require the receiver to put a password in before opening. I know Google recommend their own one through Zix(?) but it's very expensive. I've seen other Gmail add ons (Criptext and FlowCrypt) which again can be costly. I was wondering if there's anything I've missed, or we just have to pay for send an email or PDF that requires a password. -
New GDPR compliant contracts
Tammie replied to Tammie's topic in Data Protection & Information Handling
Thanks very much @djrscally, that answers my question. -
Hello all We're wondering about the specifics of obtaining new GDPR compliant contracts. The ICO Guidance says "You should therefore check your existing contracts to make sure they contain all the required elements. If they don’t, you should get new contracts drafted and signed." Once we've reviewed all our contracts, we're unsure as to whether we a) contact all our suppliers and ask for a new contract containing all the elements required, b) write a new contract ourselves and send it to them or c) find information that the suppliers publish themselves about their compliance and document that somewhere? Any light shed would be appreciated!
-
Thanks - so excuse my ignorance, you're not actually asking them for another contract in the traditional sense of the word? I saw some companies suggesting that new contracts needed to be written, for GDPR, and they were a legal agreement between x and y etc and I thought we'd have to write one of those for every processor. You've looked at the Ts&Cs that they sent you when you signed up to see if they were compliant (and asked for updated ones if necessary) rather than looking for a privacy notice that they have online or similar?
-
This is something I want to find out too - do we have to send new GDPR compliant contracts to processors or do I just find a contract that they've already sent us (somewhere!!) and comb through them to see if they comply? I think it's the latter, reading @djrscally's post.

Chromecast/Cast for education not working with Ruckus
Tammie replied to Tammie's topic in Wireless Networks
Well thank you very much @LeMarchand for your wisdom! And thanks for your replies @DJ-1701 - much appreciated. We did get to the bottom of it in the end, there was a problem with the was our DNS was set up, which was why the Chromecasts weren't picking up the static IPs with unfiltered access. Once that was sorted, it all worked. Phew! -
Chromecast/Cast for education not working with Ruckus
Tammie replied to Tammie's topic in Wireless Networks
Hi both, thank you for your messages. Sorry, been off for the summer! @DJ-1701 I remember us talking about removing old DNS records, but I don't know how to do that? I've done some reading, found this where it talks about 'Scavenge stale resource records' and 'Enable automatic scavenging of stale records' - but are unticked. Should they be ticked? We don't have transparent proxy, but I had requested unfiltered access for the IP reservations I'd set from SWGfL. I see the Chromecasts are still not picking up those addresses, which I take it is where the old DNS record removal comes in... We do have the RM certificate for our Google domain, so hopefully that should be ok. Mark - thanks for the suggestion, I'll check that. Tammie
