thepridster Posted March 11, 2015 Posted March 11, 2015 @Garacesh oh I cant promise that everyone knows you measure from the front of the base and move so the back of your base is touching the tape especially with monstrous creatures!
Garacesh Posted March 11, 2015 Posted March 11, 2015 @Garacesh oh I cant promise that everyone knows you measure from the front of the base and move so the back of your base is touching the tape especially with monstrous creatures! No you ruddy don't you cheating scumbag xP lol Some of the younger ones at my FLGS are even worse than that.. Measure 6 inches from the front of the base, put the back of the base about 1cm beyond the tape measure.. Wuuuuuuut
thepridster Posted March 11, 2015 Posted March 11, 2015 @Garacesh hahah brilliant !!! I shall be trying that when I play @Pottsey at some point . and im sure we could sort a carpool system so that we could get most people to a single site
Pottsey Posted March 11, 2015 Posted March 11, 2015 @Garacesh hahah brilliant !!! I shall be trying that when I play @Pottsey at some point . and im sure we could sort a carpool system so that we could get most people to a single site Last edition a player got very upset with me for pointing out the assault move he just did against my Tau was impossible. He had deployed a tiny bit past the 12" deployment zone, moved the tactical troops just over 6". Then assaulted me in my own deployment zone on turn 1. It was hard enough playing Tau in the older codex's without people trying to pull that off. Its also pretty bad when people do the measure from front to back for tanks!
thepridster Posted March 11, 2015 Posted March 11, 2015 ah what gets me is if there's any ambiguous rules brought up you get that one guy who screams PERMISSIVE RULESET! god.... that guy....
Garacesh Posted March 11, 2015 Posted March 11, 2015 and im sure we could sort a carpool system so that we could get most people to a single site That would be welcomed if it were to happen. I'd probably get my butt kicked by you guys though. I need more transport vehicles D: ah what gets me is if there's any ambiguous rules brought up you get that one guy who screams PERMISSIVE RULESET! god.... that guy.... Permissive ruleset? Not come across that phrase before..
thepridster Posted March 11, 2015 Posted March 11, 2015 its the phrase used when there no other reason for bending the rules. instead of just rolling of for it they then say well the rules say don't say you can't.... find the rule that says I can't .... luckily this isn't often but can lead to much unneeded frustration
sonofsanta Posted March 12, 2015 Posted March 12, 2015 I once played a game of Fantasy Battle against a friend, my Dark Elves versus his Empire, and it got to the shooting phase of his first turn and he started measuring between my units, then started measuring from his artillery to some of my units... "Hang on a minute," quoth I, "you can't measure for your cannon, you have to estimate it." "Oh I'm not targeting your crossbowmen," he said, "I'm targeting your Corsairs, and using trigonometry to work out how far I should estimate." Fortunately he was rubbish at maths!
thepridster Posted March 12, 2015 Posted March 12, 2015 ah I played vamp counts and loved empire as I would use dans macabre from 3 people to get literally in front of them turn 1 and with terrorgeists on your flank

Dunno about Fantasty but in 40k you can premeasure now, the premise being that targeting systems (or physic powers) are so advanced you'd be able to calculate (or feel) how far away the opponent was before you even raised your weapon. Not sure whether I like the change or not, but eh. Rules is rules.
thepridster Posted March 12, 2015 Posted March 12, 2015 pre measuring is brilliant and its in both games now and at any point you both get to do it. To be honest it doesn't happen very often usually for charge distance.
sonofsanta Posted March 12, 2015 Posted March 12, 2015 The battle in question was probably about 15 years ago, under WFB 4 - the box with the High Elves and the Goblins. I remember 5 coming out (Bretonnians & Lizardmen) and after that, it's all modern nonsense to me. Last 40k I played was 3 - when they first introduced the 'everyone moves 6"' nonsense and streamlined all the character out of the game. Clunky as v2 was, I never could get into v3.
CAM Posted March 13, 2015 Posted March 13, 2015 Anyone ever been to Tabletop Nation in Essex? Will be there this weekend with my Scions/Guard force, look for the big nuclear missile.
thepridster Posted March 13, 2015 Posted March 13, 2015 I have not but good luck nuking unsuspecting enemies!
thepridster Posted March 13, 2015 Posted March 13, 2015 @Pottsey So how's next Thursday looking for you then?
korifugi Posted March 13, 2015 Posted March 13, 2015 its the phrase used when there no other reason for bending the rules. instead of just rolling of for it they then say well the rules say don't say you can't.... find the rule that says I can't .... luckily this isn't often but can lead to much unneeded frustration Personally - I'd leaf through the rulebook, exclaim "found it!", snap the rulebook closed and give them a swift smack around the back of the head with it, followed by "Spirit of the rules, sunshine!"
CAM Posted March 16, 2015 Posted March 16, 2015 Well that was a fun weekend. Spent it at Tabletop Nation playing 40k, D&D Attack Wing, 7 Wonders and Geek Out. Deathstrike managed to fire, landed at point blank range and managed to kill only 5 Khorne Hounds which was underwhelming. Rest of the army got completely minced by daemons. Luckily second game was a custom scenario where I could re-use most of my units and it was a brutal game of templates and mass casualties!
Garacesh Posted March 16, 2015 Posted March 16, 2015 If you'll excuse the turd quality... All-in-all sounds like a pretty fun weekend I haven't played D&D in quite some time. GMing got boring and I didn't have many people that were wanting to play anyhow.
CAM Posted March 16, 2015 Posted March 16, 2015 It's not D&D in that sense (never played it myself!). It's X-Wing with dragons instead of spaceships.
halbaradkenafin Posted March 16, 2015 Posted March 16, 2015 Started on my Skaven warband for Mordheim this weekend, got all the bases done (so many cobblestones) and going to start on the actual models at some point this week. I also got myself a Malifaux box to paint up as a reward for painting a lot of grey and brown.
Pottsey Posted March 16, 2015 Posted March 16, 2015 @Pottsey So how's next Thursday looking for you then? @thepridster Should be ok. Not been to sanctuary in Sutton-In-Ashfield before buts its not that far away. Will have to find some time to read the new FAQ's and glance at the rules. Is 1250 points enough? What time?
Garacesh Posted March 16, 2015 Posted March 16, 2015 got all the bases done Ha, now there's a feeling I know.. 6 harlequins, 1 of each special unit, and a starweaver to paint? Eh, I'll just do the bases for now.. xD
CAM Posted March 16, 2015 Posted March 16, 2015 Ha! I've dug out a blob of 50 Guardsmen that need reworking and another 30 that need painting from scratch.
thepridster Posted March 16, 2015 Posted March 16, 2015 @Pottsey wrap up warmish. Its an old church. 1250 points sounds perfect I usually play around 7 but whatever time suits you as long as its after 5
halbaradkenafin Posted March 16, 2015 Posted March 16, 2015 Ha, now there's a feeling I know.. 6 harlequins, 1 of each special unit, and a starweaver to paint? Eh, I'll just do the bases for now.. xD Thankfully I only have 12 skaven to paint for now, and potentially another 9 over the next few months. I might even get around to finishing one of the half dozen or so half painted models I've got sitting on my paint station, though I'll probably pick up a few more before I do.
