mikkydoos Posted February 24, 2015 Posted February 24, 2015 Hi, We're changing our O365 licensing from E3 Faculty to Pro Plus Faculty (Free with EES). I just tried changing my own O365 account to the Pro Plus license and its created a new mailbox etc instead of just changing the license so I've lost my mail for now. Waiting for a call from MS... My E3 runs out on Friday. What do I do ?? Gulp!
Cache Posted February 24, 2015 Posted February 24, 2015 If you've just removed the E3 Faculty licence and replaced it with Pro Plus faculty, you won't have an Office 365 licence allocated which will grant you a mailbox. You'll need to allocate something like an Office 365 E1 licence for Faculty as well as your Pro Plus Faculty which will grant you a mailbox licence.

The thought terrifies me! add you new licenses as a second license rather than removing the old free ones. So the schools I have with free office 365 and free download office the staff/kids have 2 licenses assigned to them 1

I think you have to license it with your EES vendor - thats probably for a new O365 tennant, not a subscription renewal 2. O365 Admin Centre - Billing/Subscriptions 3. 'New Subscription' 4. (I used)... Office 365 Education E1 for Faculty (Outlook, Calender, Sharepoint etc) £0.00 &&&& Office 365 Pro Plus (for Onedrive and Office downloads) 5. To bulk assign licenses to users... a) O365 Admin Centre - Users/Active Users b) Dropdown box - 'Select a View / New View' - Choose your options c) Using that view you can then select up to 20 users at a time, hit EDIT, go through the steps to 'Licenses' ... untick your current plan, tick the new ones.... Bingo! ....So my account has E1 and ProPlus selected as licenses. Test it first on a duff account... I firstly selected only ProPlus and my mailbox disappeared. I had to change my license back, then in outlook select Region and Timezone (like with a new account).. then clench my buttocks. Luckily my old mail was back I did that with MS on the other end of the phone. Hope this helps.... I went through these steps with Pugh.co.uk (EES vendor) and MS. It works. I haven't done my bulk move yet, thats Friday, but it certainly works with my account. if you want to bulk assign lics its easier if when you create them with a spread sheet you give them a description (I cant remember the exact field title ) that way you can fairly quickly assign lics based on description with powershell (but if you only have lets say 100 staff its not that hard to create a staff only view and assign lics in bunches of twenty and is possibly quicker if you arnt used to powershell)

You might not have to touch it. with e1 asfaik you don't as pro plus is just a license to run office and has no "exchange" lics included so you would lose the mailbox you need the e1 for that (no idea about e3 all my schools are either e1 or e1+pro plus

When you get your EES you will need to amend your freebie O365 to reflect you are an educational institution. O365 does this by validating a domain - you need to create DNS records at your host and validate them in '365. Then you should be able to select the E1 plan from your list of subscriptions.

There is the fun of getting it assigned to your 365 Tenancy, but I believe the self signup feature might be working now (I seem to remember clicking a link somewhere in the 365 admin portal before the holiday) Edit... found the section, it was in the message centre... Getting the online activation bits thre has been the pita for me the rest has been done in 10 mins bar assigning lics which diddnt take that long Edited February 25, 2015 by sted
