Zero hand off is very useful for time sensitive applications such as VoIP - however it's not a game changer for me. I suspect AC APs will have ZHO soon enough for those that require it.

ZHO can cause issues in a high density network - however what becomes high density is probably up for debate!

As we saw close to 3000 users on one of our Unifi systems at the weekend it was interesting to see that on all of the Pro Points over 70% were 5Ghz clients.

This will be a killer for .AC deployments as the band becomes increasingly noisy with spurious 5Ghz Beacons everywhere.

Likewise people will be chaining multiple channels in order to get wirespeed connections how are these installations going to cope with an ever increasingly busy band?

With .AC point to point links popping up everywhere how long before the local councils CCTV Wifi bridge decides to carve its way through your little Wifi domains?

ZHO - not handled by Unifi .AC points... that the least of your worries ;D I can see it all ending in tears especially for Meru as their shares dipped to $1.58 today .AC is unlikely to save them from impending doom or a fire sale.

Still got my fingers crossed for you and those shares @m25man!

Thanks, what I have lost on Meru almost wiped out the gains made on my remaining UBNT stock!

Just as well I cashed out half of my UBNT when they made $50 (having bought in @ $12

I've written Meru off as a bad deal but at least the SIPP made 22% this year (who said tech stocks are dead!)

Hi,

I have been told by someone who uses unifi access points that these poe switches work with them as i am buying unifi aps in april. The switch is ZyXEL GS1900-24HP. would this work?

Thanks

I have no experience with these, but I hear they fail all the time. Perhaps recent stock is improved though?

I don't either but there is an edugeeker (can't remember who) that has them who hasn't had any fail, but for the price of them they are cheap enough to have some spares.

We have around 90 in use and have only had 1 fail in 2 years.

We installed 14 unifi UAP-AC ap's at a school I was working at in February, we ordered one at first to test it and it handled every device we threw at it, we had 34 devices connected to that single point without drop outs, we'd have connected more devices if we'd had more to hand at the time.

For the money I don't think you'll find a better AP out there and the Software controller does the job perfectly, it even allows you to upload a floor plan so you can see exactly what sort of coverage you are getting.

I'm trying to convince the head teacher at the school I'm now working for to buy these to replace our aging Netgear WNDAP350's that seem to drop devices for fun.
