Best Optical Mouse???

We have had bad luck in school choosing mice that end up being pants.

 

Any recommendations for reasonably priced optical mice that work on dodgy school surfaces? Any manufacturers to avoid or go with??? Anything to look out for???

The ones we got with our Stone PCs are doing well - not a single failure in 2 years. They are basically a re-labled microsoft mouse.

Our MS ones have lasted into thier 3rd year now without problems really - two of them the butons seemed to have lost any travel - down to abuse I think. The kids put chewing gum into the optic of one in the first week - which was a pain to dig out, but did recover. The white has gotten slightly grubby, but all in all, we're happy with them. We paid £10 each bach then but you can get them now for £5. Silver/black would be a better colour.

I just buy the 'value' unbranded ones Dabs.com sell. They are dirt cheap and work well enough. Doesn't matter if a few get broken.

I buy them by the carton from Hills components, 40 in a box and you get discount for buying a full carton about £2.25 each.

Black/Silver Benq ones from Insight UK for about £4-5 quid each.

 

Only replaced a few within the past few years.

I have used a few, I do like the Microsoft Mulitmedia Optical Desk Sets - which have a strong, robust keyboard and optical mouse. I also like the OEM Logitech ones, as well as the cheap and cheerful Genius optical scroll mice.

I like the MS optical wheel mice - they track really well and can be found for less than a tenner each when bought in bulk. DON'T buy the cheaper MS ones (they're slightly smaller and are pants - I currently have one at work).

 

If you want a decent mouse, check out the Logitech MX Laser micre - expensive but they track amazingly (I wouldn't let a kid loose on one though at £60!)

It's branded Trust and is silver/grey in colour, have had no problems with these at all.

We bought some budget ones which where unbranded. The majority failed within a year. The cable was cheap and soon started to lose connection when you 'wiggled' it!

 

We have used trust ones which have been fine. Logitech ones are good too. We have many of them which are in their fourth year now.

 

Microsoft have to be the best though. I dissagree with Ric though (sorry) about the smaller budget MS mice. We use many of them and they are great for the classroom. True, for your own mouse you might want something bigger, but for the pupils who are using them for one or two hours a week they are perfectly Ok. However with ALL the microsoft mice, we have had a problem with a minority of pupils pulling the muce buttons up and snapping them off. Of course, any mouse is vunerable to willfull vandalism and this can only be controlled by the class teacher.
