ZeroHour Posted February 5, 2015 Posted February 5, 2015 Right 123-reg are off my list, I have unlocked, updated whois and authorised a transfer and no email yet from 123-reg to tell the account holder, very very concerning.... They do notify the whois detailed email address but if they get into your account they can change that easily and you would be unaware until the domain has moved.

We were going to leave this year (after the passwords fiasco) but I woke up one day in May to find another whole years worth of dedicated server hosting had been removed from the EduGeek bank account by them without my permission or any reminders being issued, and they have steadfastly refused any refund as they wave their SLA at us (incidentally, it says 'we've got your cash now bog off you oik', so we have had to struggle on with them whilst we get some more cash together. I would like to thank all the comanies who contacted us offering hosting, co-location and other services during this past week though. It's restored my faith in hosting companies (a bit).
ZeroHour Posted February 11, 2015 Posted February 11, 2015 We did get 1 email from 123-reg but it would be very easy to grab domains and change things without anyone aware especially during holiday time! We have now finished moving all our domains to Domain name registrar and VPS cloud hosting - Gandi.net and Amazon AWS, much better.

I've been playing around with this. I can have a 301 redirection that allows me to access the domain e.g. mydomain.com that then redirects to whateverfreehosting.com Or I can have a 302 frame redirect that shows the domain address in the address bar all the time. This is what we want however it keeps telling me that this tells search engines that it's a temporary site and wil affect rankings. Is there no way to have a frame redirection with a 301. Does that make sense? Cheers.

Does that make sense? Cheers. You dont want 301 at all in frame mode since you dont want it to be temporary. The SEO will pick up the domain you are redirecting too though unless you get http code 200 and even then SEO wont be great thanks to frames tbh. I would expect Google to link to the redirected address not the primary domain.

The “sneak into basket” pattern is now illegal. Full stop, end of story. You cannot create a situation where additional items and services are added by default. No more having to manually remove insurance from your basket when purchasing plane tickets.

I still wouldn't use because of the domain security issues I have with the service.

I switched from 123-reg years ago and definitely wouldn't use them again especially now that they charge a fee to transfer your domain(s) to a different registrar.
