Can anyone recommend a UPS hardware alternative to blinking APC?

 

I'm sick of the poor web interface and pretty dreadful aftersales support.

Our monster Eaton is the 9PX 11000, which is modular. The bottom bits are batteries, the top bit is the controller and the second to top bit is the super charger. This doesn't make it go faster, but recharges the batteries quicker than normal. Weighs 450 kgs. We don't know how long it will keep things running for, but there are 7 Poweredge servers, an Equalogic, core switch and two Macs connected to it. We power off non-crtitcal servers after an hour and the critical ones after three. We have yet to experience a power outage to see how much juice is left when the last thing powers off. I can't remember the exact cost but I think it was around £22k.

Why would you not flip the breaker to test it? You spent £22k on something that may do what you need?

I've used Borri Rotation Plus's before they were good, few niggles on the SNMP so had to get shouty but they did resolve issues, where I am now we have pair of Riello units, including one monster unit that dwarfs that Eaton further up the thread

I wouldn't buy Borri again. We purchased a couple of their devices and just after a year (outside the warranty) one of them died. They wanted over £600 to send an engineer out to fix!

How many VA is it?

 

My last place we bought in a Powertecnique iSaxon 10kva 9u beasty which kept up 4x HPDL380 gen8, an hp5400zl, 32tb of EMC vnx san, 2x brocade ethernet fabric switches and a couple of other small server for about 45 minutes. it was £6k and we did a 10% test on it as part of the commissioning procedure.

never had any problems with APC have some original smartUPS 700's running some switching and all they have needed is batteries every now and again
