tj2419 Posted January 28, 2015 Posted January 28, 2015 Hi We have just been given notice that our LEA internet services are going up in cost quite dramatically. Just wondering from anyone that has moved from their LEA internet services to a third party company if they have any tips? Any pitfalls to try and avoid? Are there any companies people would highly recommend? Do most people get their feed from one company then their firewall from another and filtering from another? How long did it take you from placing your order to getting the services up and running? Any other bit that people feel might be useful would be greatly appreciated cheers
nathan Posted January 28, 2015 Posted January 28, 2015 We use Schools Broadband in 3 of our trust schools, planning on moving the others over when existing contracts expire. There lightspeed filtering has been top notch so far. 2
JordanT91 Posted January 28, 2015 Posted January 28, 2015 We are considering leaving our LEA and during my research I found that RM Education, Schools Broadband, WebAnywhere and Exa Networks were the main providers used by schools. I also got a quote from Virgin Media and BT for completeness sake. A lot of these services have a large price range but when you add on all the extras to each so that you get the same features (or as close as possible) you'll find they are fairly similar in price. We have to give a year notice to leave our SLA so we're quite a while off yet. 1
tj2419 Posted January 28, 2015 Author Posted January 28, 2015 We were told that we have until December 2015 on our current contract. So need to workout when we can switch (if we do) to cause minimum impact.
Meldrew Posted January 28, 2015 Posted January 28, 2015 We're finding that we could save £7,000 per year by leaving our current provider, but we're lock into contract with them for another year and the severance fees are out of this world. The best deal, which we'll be moving to in a year is to get a leased line from BT and run broadband and telephone through the same line. Much cheaper. Meldrew

SchoolsBroadband Posted January 28, 2015 Posted January 28, 2015 Over a thousand schools now use us! PM'd Dave
mikeyw Posted January 29, 2015 Posted January 29, 2015 Our school moved from LEA to schools broadband, Any issues they sorted it out really quickly. 1
EXA_Mark Posted February 6, 2015 Posted February 6, 2015 If you would like a quote for our services, or would like to speak to some of the many thousands of schools that already use us you are most welcome to. We don't just have a few select "champion" schools for you to speak to in order to find out about whether our services are excellent or not, you can speak to any of them. Just PM me if you'd like to speak to them, or get a quote. Exa are in our 12th year of providing connectivity and filtering services (our own, not bought in). Oh yes, and our network uptime for our schools in 2014 was 100%
KK20 Posted February 6, 2015 Posted February 6, 2015 We moved to a local provider who installed a wireless 20/20 PTP connection (moving to 30/30 in September). Due to geography we had no fibre to premises although the local cabinet is FTTC now. Still we saved a packet doing this and we prefer to keep local business going. SLA is in place and we have a dedicated technician should we need one. Filtering is local though not through the ISP. Are there any local providers nearby? Perhaps the personal touch might be an option?
EXA_Mark Posted February 6, 2015 Posted February 6, 2015 We have accredited partners all over the UK, who provide support and assistance regardless of the ISP, if you PM me where you are I'll send you over a couple of contacts
hallb15 Posted February 6, 2015 Posted February 6, 2015 We're with Exa and are very happy. No major issues and any queries are always responded to very quickly. They've just delivered us some nice leaflets on how our content filter works for us to give to parents on SaferInternetDay next week. PM me if you want to know more. 1
