SmartNotebook on 3rd party screens

I am looking into board\screen replacement and wondered if using the latest SmartNotebook software on a 3rd party screen (such as a Sahara) looses any features of the software compared to using it on a Smart manufactured screen.

 

Would Multitouch still work and the iPad integration and would there be any features of the software that would not work?

Biggest drawback to this is that licencing SMART for non-SMART screens costs an absolute arm and a leg!

 

I've been quoted around £600 a licence previously!

Loosing InkAware (ability to annotate anywhere on screen, outside of SMART Notebook) was the biggest gripe we had with 3rd Party Touch Screens.

 

Apparently this feature is only available/activated with a SMART Touch Screen (hence the premium of them in comparison); although have been advised SMART will stop making boards within next 12-24 months; moving towards software only and the suggestion is that full functionality will be available for 3rd party products. (Subject to the cost of a purchasing a license as mentioned.)

If I remember correctly, there's now a one-off license fee per board (around £300, so it's come down a bit) and a yearly license fee. Handily, the advert at the top of this page on my PC points out that VeryPC sell SMART licenses starting from £24 per machine per year, so they are probably going to be worth talking to to get the details.

The Smart Licensing seems a tad bit confusing nowadays, however I have been quoted £16 per machine for a 1 year site licence - so the £24 per machine seems overpriced by about £8 per machine, although I expect that company is paying huge advertising costs to promote which means they have to sell the licences more expensive to cover that. I have been quoted £34 for a 1 year class license which covers up to 4 machines for one class so would work out better if you used 3 or more machines per class with the software.

Pricing is quite simple now.

 

For each device, there's a £299 license purchase cost. Then, you buy the SMART Notebook Advantage license, which covers upgrades - they are available in various lengths. We bought 4 years for all our devices.

 

Also, the £16 per machine is if you cover all interactive devices on a site - the price goes up for "classroom" licenses, which cover a single device only.

Thats basically what I just said. I have been told the board licence is £299 which includes a 1 year software licence for up to 4 machines for that class. For existing smart boards the £16 licence is per machine per board or the £34 class licences is for 4 machines per board, but not all boards need to be covered by that license.
