w-clarke101 Posted January 21, 2015 Posted January 21, 2015 My new PSU come yesterday! And GPU today.
3s-gtech Posted January 21, 2015 Posted January 21, 2015 Very nice indeed. What are you planning on playing to use it?
DalekSec Posted January 21, 2015 Posted January 21, 2015 I have a similar speech gpu and all I do is play age of empires 2.... great game but I suppose overkill on the gpu
w-clarke101 Posted January 21, 2015 Author Posted January 21, 2015 Very nice indeed. What are you planning on playing to use it? Going on my old Game PC for now but will be getting all new CPU, RAM and Motherboard all on Intel X99 in time . Playing Elite dangerous at the min and going to get farcry 4 next on the shopping list.
Sunnyknight Posted January 21, 2015 Posted January 21, 2015 X99. You legend. You absolute Legend Finally, someone who loves building a power rig! (bar the 970) xD
Harry_Small_ Posted January 21, 2015 Posted January 21, 2015 I have just fitted an EVGA one alike that as a power surge made mine go pop -.- So far so good with it really impressed!
DalekSec Posted January 21, 2015 Posted January 21, 2015 Finally, someone who loves building a power rig! (bar the 970) xD I have the problem where I make my PC as powerful as I can ( haven't upgraded in awhile as paying off my car , only 2 months left! then new cpu yay! ) but I play games that don't require that amount of power, age of empires 2, diablo 2 and LoL I can easily play all at 60fps+ on ultra settings. but I want more (in the voice of Clarkson) POWWWWWEERRRRRRRR
w-clarke101 Posted January 21, 2015 Author Posted January 21, 2015 X99. You legend. You absolute Legend Finally, someone who loves building a power rig! (bar the 970) xD And what's up with the 970? If I was to play Crysis 3 in 4K on the 980 it get about 34.2fps on the 970 it's about 30fps. So £170 more for 980 when a 970 works great.
3s-gtech Posted January 21, 2015 Posted January 21, 2015 Your 970 will match a stock 980 when overclocked.
Garacesh Posted January 21, 2015 Posted January 21, 2015 Never understood fully modular power supplies.. As if you're ever going to not need the 2 4-Pin motherboard connectors or the E/ATX power rails.. So my new PSU is a hybrid supply (Will be building the rig this weekend.. Can't wait.. HURRY UP AND ARRIVE ALREADY! Bloody WCUK and their slow postage. I want my kill coils!)
w-clarke101 Posted January 22, 2015 Author Posted January 22, 2015 So a test on elite dangerous last night 1080P, 120FPS out in space! Can say I'm happy with that. Don't get much time to do more testing. Did you get all your stuff yet Garacesh? Order all from Scan on Monday night to don't wait long. I only just got the GPU in my case! 1 or 2cm bigger a I don't think I would of got it in my case.
Arreks Posted January 22, 2015 Posted January 22, 2015 Looks nice! you need to try it on games more demanding than E.D though I'll be getting my second 970 soon, it was either get two 970's or one 980.. two 970's look cooler.

w-clarke101 Posted January 22, 2015 Author Posted January 22, 2015 I will do when I get some more time to play! Maybe tonight.
mac_shinobi Posted January 22, 2015 Posted January 22, 2015 X99. You legend. You absolute Legend Finally, someone who loves building a power rig! (bar the 970) xD My 4790k build isn't bad - Think I'd much rather spend money on better GPU's than better CPU and RAM for X99, aren't they releasing a newer chipset for DDR4 etc ?
Arreks Posted January 22, 2015 Posted January 22, 2015 You disgust me. I don't need the extra 10fps from spending another 200 quid it's k
Sunnyknight Posted January 22, 2015 Posted January 22, 2015 I don't need the extra 10fps from spending another 200 quid it's k Well you chuffing should ok. OK. O K !!!

mac_shinobi Posted January 22, 2015 Posted January 22, 2015 Haven't read up on it? Will have a gander on the net tonight. Maybe I'm imagining things lol, either way gone with the devils canyon build and that should be more than sufficient for what I need. Am sure they will make something better and faster later on
Arthur Posted January 22, 2015 Posted January 22, 2015 (edited) aren't they releasing a newer chipset for DDR4 etc? Yep. Sixth-gen Intel Core processors and 100-series motherboards are due to be released later this year with DDR4 support. Hopefully DDR4 RAM will be a bit cheaper by then. 32GB currently costs £400+. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Skylake_%28microarchitecture%29#Architecture http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_Intel_chipsets#LGA_1151 Am sure they will make something better and faster later on There is always something faster and better. LosOjos Posted January 22, 2015 Posted January 22, 2015 There is always something faster and better. Much to @Sunnyknight's eternal shame

Yes but it's all about the PCI-E Lanes on the CPU, on an Core i7 5930K you 40 Lanes, on i7 5820K you get 28 Lanes! so if you got two GPU running and you want them both to run on PCI-E x16 then that's 32 Lanes, That's from what I'm been reading and seen on youtube. The last time I got a CPU was 2008 and it was about best I could get at the time for money and power and it still going now, But it's time to update to a new one soon so will be going for the one with the most Lanes that I can buy.

Fair enough, like yourself , went with what I could afford which was the 4790k, 32gb of ddr3 etc etc ( something along these lines ) Intel Core i7-4790K, Corsair 750D - Jan 2015 Build Final - RenegadeMe82's Saved Part List - PCPartPicker United Kingdom Only have a 1080P HD TV so don't really require a multi GPU setup for 4k etc A better gpu would be better but am sure if i wait long enough I can get a better motherboard / cpu and ram combo Edited January 22, 2015 by mac_shinobi
mac_shinobi Posted January 23, 2015 Posted January 23, 2015 Found a drive for @Sunnyknight who should be able to afford the measly * cough cough* price of about £4,000 lol http://www.boston.co.uk/products/z16izf2d-400ucm-nxt.aspx
