Smee Posted January 16, 2015 Posted January 16, 2015 I have just been informed that the school are purchasing 22 hudl 2 from Tescos. Can I ask anyone that already has them in school, how do you store and charge them please? Also can I use Meraki to manage them? thanks

I believe the Hudle 2 is Android 4.2.4 (Kitkat) so in theory, yes. Though if the performance of these tablets will be good enough in the long term. They have been such a pain, battery don't last. if you fully charge them and switch them off to save battery, then when you put them on the battery is dead. I am finding them hard to lock them down. Is there anyway to lock them down?? I would be grateful if you could share some info.. Thanks
Valyyn Posted October 13, 2015 Posted October 13, 2015 The good news is that yes you can You need to have a Google Education account though (which is free). But then you can basically just register the Hudls by installing https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.google.android.apps.enterprise.dmagent&hl=en_GB and you can control set policies by logging in to your admin.google.com account, going to Devices and then Mobile on the left. On the device itself, we also had our own account as the "admin" user (with a password) and created a normal user account for the staff to use, which means we can restrict what apps the user sees and/or can install.
mikeprice Posted October 13, 2015 Posted October 13, 2015 We only have 1 Hudl but I have had problems with charging it I assumed that, as it has a microUSB port then any MicroUSB charger would charge it - but I have had loads of problem with this and the only one that seems to actually charge it is a original Hudl charger
Andrew_C Posted October 13, 2015 Posted October 13, 2015 Not had that trouble at home with Management's Hudl. We use a Sweek (?) multi-outlet charger for all the family's phones etc. No problems.
FragglePete Posted October 13, 2015 Posted October 13, 2015 Currently have about 10 hudls in use within our SpLD & MLD units - and they are proving quite successful. We have a restricted account setup on each one, with the admin account protected by PIN. We are using Meraki to manage them in tandem with some iPads we have but Meraki doesn't actually push apps to these devices as of yet, we find you have to pull them down manually once assigned. May look at have a GAFE account in place if it proves a more effective solution for managing them. The main weakness is indeed the battery, it's not great but we are managing them. I, and my two techs both had personnel Hudl2's and we love them as a tablet device ourselves. £99, you can't complain too much. Pete

It's pretty grim - I don't know if it's Android's background services draining the juice or the design decision to choose Intel over the power efficient ARM. Apart from the poor battery life, it's a pretty good tablet for the money. Mine recently got an upgrade to Android 5.1, which is nice: nothing worse than a tablet that's left to wither on the vine. Also do I install https://play.google.com/store/apps/d...agent&hl=en_GB on a laptop to control the Hudls? I have 2 profiles on each hudls, one as Teacher and one a Pupil. These hudls are for the nursery kids and the issues the teacher are facing with is that each time the kids navigate to something different usually Youtube. I want to disable the use of Youtube on the Pupil profile and lock it down so they only have access to certain apps. Thanks
