Hi there,

Before I put this up for general sale elsewhere I thought I would see if anyone could make use of this here. We've just replaced our former Smoothwall UTM-1000 appliances with newer S8 units. Here are its specs:

CPU:

Intel Core 2 Quad Q9400 2.66GHz

Chipset:

Intel G41/ICH70

BUS:

1066MHz

RAM:

4.00GB (as 2x 2.00GB)

LAN:

Intel Pro/1000 Gigabit Ethernet / RJ45

Other:

2x USB 2 on front panel for system upgrades

1x RS232 via RJ45 for optional serial console

1x SVGA at rear for optional connection to monitor

HDD:

2x 500GB 3.5"

Display:

Multifunction front panel LCD with 4x push buttons

Approvals:

FCC, CE, RoHS

Here is a link to it's PDF guide: http://www.smoothwall.com/media/114615/UTM-108-308-1000-getting-started.pdf

We are hoping to receive £150 for this. It is roughly £25 to ship with confirmation.

We are in the B17 0HR area of Birmingham if you wish to pick up the unit instead.

I think the question was more ... "are you permitted to sell an item purchased by a school onwards to a private individual" ... we had a similar situation when emptying an old site of kit, we were obliged to offer it to other education establishments, feeder schools and other secondary schools before offering it to private individuals

Whilst being an extremely good (low) price; we have 2 of these... The issue would presumably be for support/updates from SmoothWall?? although would make a good/cheap hardware firewall/DHCP server etc.

Our renewal support contract was virtually the same price as our original 3 year support contract that included 2 UTM-1000 appliances!

Could be used for something like PFsense. Would make a nice little box actually.

CyberDrac: Yes we can sell them to either.

MYK-IT: Yes, we had the same problem! The unit will make for a good firewall, but web filtering will not function as this needs to be purchased as a renewal. A shame, but if you're simply needing the firewall part of it, VPN, DHCP Server and such forth, it's actually fine.

The licence will be invalid, so you will need to wipe the box before you sell it - however if somebody else wanted to reinstall smoothwall on it they could, in theory buy a licence for it.

It will happily handle any of the open source firewall s/w including pfsense, you could even use it to run windows, or vmware.
