elsiegee40 Posted January 9, 2015 Posted January 9, 2015 It's nearly here, so what are you on the hunt for at BETT this year? The next big shiny thing that will impress your Head? Or something just for you?
north-ict Posted January 9, 2015 Posted January 9, 2015 General ear to the ground on new tech/services, networking with companies and people.
AJWhite1970 Posted January 9, 2015 Posted January 9, 2015 Nothing specific this year, travelling with a SEN specialist from another school and an IT Manager from yet another school (annual trip for all three of us) but will be interested to look at interactive TV screens in classrooms instead of IWB's, a look at 3d projectors to see if they have got any better, pizza from a really good tech stand around lunchtime, dinner with one of my suppliers and the usual trawl to find the best freebie without getting my badge scanned
fiza Posted January 9, 2015 Posted January 9, 2015 Will be looking for replacements for our current desktops in IT Suites. Pick up Freebies as per usual. Meet up with our usual suppliers and say hello.
X-13 Posted January 9, 2015 Posted January 9, 2015 It's nearly here, so what are you on the hunt for at BETT this year? The next big shiny thing that will impress your Head? T'internet. Or something just for you? Free coffee. Free food. Somewhere to sit and play OoT Master Quest. Friends?
DrCheese Posted January 9, 2015 Posted January 9, 2015 Display screens to start replacing projectors/speakers in classrooms (Majority of ours are 1024x768 4:3!) Tablets - How are they used in schools? We have learnpads but management are getting excited about giving all students a personal device (ugh!)
X-13 Posted January 9, 2015 Posted January 9, 2015 (edited) Display screens to start replacing projectors/speakers in classrooms (Majority of ours are 1024x768 4:3!) I'm looking into super cool touch screens... but they're soo expensive. Tablets - How are they used in schools? As a place for me to dump stuff. I've got 2 trolleys of learnpads in my office that haven't been touched since they were bought. Edited January 9, 2015 by X-13
DrCheese Posted January 9, 2015 Posted January 9, 2015 Well... in our case the learnpads are used pretty effectively by Science. I think a lot of this is down to the Science technicians being red hot on making sure they are charged & any damage reported to us. As for 1:1 tablet computing, at this time I don't see the benefits. I think it's better that each subject has devices that suit what they need, i.e English with a bank of ereaders & laptops that get used as and when required.
BKGarry Posted January 9, 2015 Posted January 9, 2015 Interactive LED/LCD Whiteboards, AntiVirus Software, Virtualisation Specialists, contenders for our laptop purchasing and server purchasing coming up. And super big hugs at the Edugeek Stand :-)
Iain.Faulkner Posted January 9, 2015 Posted January 9, 2015 PC's and Switches/Cabling I think, plus looking at mobile devices and wireless.
Dkeen94 Posted January 9, 2015 Posted January 9, 2015 Managed wireless solutions and improving the infrastructure and backbone of the network! Oh and maybe some shiny new toys
Tesla Posted January 9, 2015 Posted January 9, 2015 Will be my first time and am only there for the one day.... will probably be overwhelmed for most of the day! Just going as a general thing, nothing specific. The school are wanting to to be slightly more hands on with the curriculum side of stuff, so thought i'd use that as leverage to get on this.
HTCPCP Posted January 9, 2015 Posted January 9, 2015 Display screens to start replacing projectors/speakers in classrooms (Majority of ours are 1024x768 4:3!) Tablets - How are they used in schools? We have learnpads but management are getting excited about giving all students a personal device (ugh!) I hope you and your team have plenty of patience! We started earlier in the year and I reacon about 5% have been warranty repairs, and about 10% breakage. Not even a year into the project...

foofighterjim Posted January 9, 2015 Posted January 9, 2015 Looking to get some hands on time with a Surface 3 and a Learnpad. Re-introduce myself to the good folk at Smoothwall and Edugeek (possibly around lunchtime!). Print management and replacement printers.

X-13 Posted January 9, 2015 Posted January 9, 2015 Im there friday Cool. Not sure when I'm there yet... or even how many days. But there's a good chance I'll be taking up space at EduGeek all the time. [unless they tell me to go away... ]
witch Posted January 9, 2015 Posted January 9, 2015 Awww... I'll be your fwiend! You HAVE to hug X-13. It's mandatory. @Tesla - looking forward to meeting you - if you see a gorgeous young woman with red hair at edugeek ...it isn't me, it's @nyiss. I'll be the er, more mature redhead hanging about hugging people randomly. You'll have to forgive me but I get so lonely at work and although I have many friends outside of work, most of them are not IT savvy geeks (other than mrwITch, of course). 1
X-13 Posted January 9, 2015 Posted January 9, 2015 You HAVE to hug X-13. It's mandatory. You're evil.
