Minimum spec for Domain Controller

We currently have 2 DCs. One is a 2 year old Dell R310 with 8GB of RAM. The other is an ageing HP DL360 G5 with 4GB RAM.

I am looking to replace the HP server.

What is an adequate spec for a DC serving 1200 users and 550 devices (PCs/Laptops)?

our DC is a dual CPU Xeon with 4GB of RAM and R5.

 

so imo anything with a dual CPU and 4GB >> 8GB of ram will be fine if your happy with the performance of the DL360 then the spec of that is fine but just needs to be in a newer box with warranty

Just DC, DNS, DHCP? Dual core, 2GB RAM is all that's needed.

Processing power and memory aren't major issues these days for Domain Controllers. I'd also recommend at least a RAID1 array or better, even if you multiple DCs.

If it's just a DC, with no file storage then you can virtually run it on a calculator.

 

I've got a physical DC here which is an HP microserver AMD turion dual core 2gb and 120gb disk. It doesn't seem remotely stressed.

again if its just dc/dhcp a hp microserver or as they arnt exactly expensive why not 2 with 2012r2 they can both both dish out all of dhcp so id thats all they do one could die and nobody would probably notice

I echo the above. I have three virtual and one physical DC, none of them are particularly powerful - the virtuals have 4 vcores and 4GB of RAM, the physical is a Microserver with 8GB RAM. None are on cutting edge hardware, and all breeze along.
