Suggestions for Home RJ45 Patch Cables

Used to religiously buy Belkin, while I have never had any problems with them I need quite a few 15m cables this time and the cost is a bit much. These aren't going to be frequently unplugged.

 

Looking at Xenta cables for example as they look a bit cheaper, anyone used them or have any feedback???

Cables are usually cables, but I believe Xenta have sold CCA ones in the past, so I'd probably avoid if that's still the case.

Why not buy yourself a reel of cable, some ends and DIY? Probably cheaper and give you the freedom to run the cables as you need, plus no need to drill large holes to get the connectors through!

I was considering buying a reel of cable and making patch cables, do you have any recomendations for makes of the cable??

 

I think this would drive me insane however but the cost saving exercise may be worth it, I would only have my self to blame if the cables didn't work

Not particularly - cablemonkey do good quality stuff, again just avoid copper clad alu stuff. Brand won't particularly matter. Grab yourself a cheap £5 cable tester from ebay/amazon just to check the connections and right and you'll get some practice at the same time

A few years ago, I got some from the Poundland and they were fine. I can't remember how long they were, but they were longer that normal. I don't know if they still sell them but it could be worth a look.

I've also seen long Belkin ones in poundland, can't remember the price off the top of my head though.

 

For cable brands I've always used excel/mayflex

That's what we did - even with the price of the tool it ended up cheaper than buying separate cables

The poundland cables are 5m, i bought one yesterday.

Proper copper they usually list when stuff is CCA and not when its proper cable.

 

Comms Express or Mills Ltd for all my cabling stuff, outlets were always Mills or Excel moved more to Excel as the Mills stuff turned crappy A lot of the Comms Express own brand stuff seemed to be Excel when it turned up, not everything patch panels were not Excel but outlets used to be when I ordered from them last time.

Comms Express supply a lot of Excel stuff on their products page, one of the best I feel. The reason we went with them for cables was for colour choice as we was colour coding at the time. Cannot fault them, use them for most stuff as and when I need it now.
