Patrick Posted January 6, 2015 Posted January 6, 2015 Happy new year all. We are a primary school with around 16 iPads. The kids go around taking pictures of various stuff for lessons. The head has informed me that we are not supposed to store pictures on these and would like to set up some sort of cloud storage where the photos are synced and then we'll wipe the iPads camera roll periodically. Can anyone recommend anywhere? She described dropbox as shit so somewhere else maybe? Thanks guys!
Zezima Posted January 6, 2015 Posted January 6, 2015 Hello! We are using 40+ ipads and we use Google Drive to store our images. I think from memory as well, there is a Google Camera app (but this might be android)... So it might mean you can tell all students to use the google camera (not the built in camera) and the images will upload straight to GDrive, so no need to periodically wipe...

DalekSec Posted January 6, 2015 Posted January 6, 2015 Whats wrong with dropbox? I have my phone sync'd so every photo I take goes straight to my dropbox and to my computer, very useful. Means I can take a photo and within 30 seconds I have it on my pc

You are required to keep this data within the EU which consumer accounts for Google, Microsoft and Dropbox don't do. Google and Microsoft education accounts are kept writing the EU but the OneDrive for business app doesn't auto sync photos.
midweek Posted January 6, 2015 Posted January 6, 2015 What about OwnCloud? ownCloud.org I've set up owncloud for our 3 class sets of iPads. It's pretty slick but I don't think it'll sync picture and video automatically without a 3rd party app (maybe Photosync) Also it has a nasty habit of dropping it's settings whenever you update your ipads with Apple Configurator which is frustrating On the plus side with a virtual linux server you can keep everything in house for data protection.
Techie2000 Posted January 6, 2015 Posted January 6, 2015 Mega.co.nz offer an iOS app and also free 50GB per account - the app also features PhotoSync which automatically syncs photos. The only downside is that each account has a maximum bandwidth of 10GB (per day I assume) - however I highly doubt you'll be uploading 10GB of photos each day from iPads! Hope this helps!

nathan Posted January 9, 2015 Posted January 9, 2015 Please don't use dropbox in a school setting, it really isn't the most secure of services so i wouldn't trust it with photos of children. Does it really need to be hosted externally? couldn't you use webdav internally?
