Thank the Lord for that! I can't tell you how annoying it was for this update to suddenly decide it wanted to install on somewhat random PCs across the site despite trying everything to make it not install then have the staff moaning they had lost 'their Internet icon' on the taskbar!

The thing I always didn't get about it was even if you wanted to choose internet explorer, you could only ever click on Install - Even though it's already installed on the system, which would then just take you to the IE download page. Surely this must of confused the hell out of less ICT literate users!?

I've always said the browser choice was unfair to Microsoft. Just like Android comes with Chrome by default, and iOS comes with Safari, Windows comes with IE.

 

Google make Android and Chrome

Apple make iOS and Safari

Microsoft make Windows and Internet Explorer.

 

The company pre-loading an operating system they developed with a browser they developed is simply a way of saying "We developed this browser and guarantee it is supported for this operating system.".. It's only anti-competition if it actively stops you installing third party browsers.

Totally agree! IMHO, the BC just confused most people. I would hazard a guess that a high percentage of alternative browsers were installed because people didn't know what to click. The only browser that I know "normal" people install is Chrome.
