TfL's Journey Planner is great for planning your trip across London using public transport: Transport for London | Plan a Journey The good news is that there is no planned engineering work for London Underground or DLR. I travel via London Bridge Station Poor you... it affects me too Those travelling in to London Bridge are advised that due to engineering works starting on January 12th (due to complete August 2016!!), many trains will no longer stop at this station. This is due to the ThamesLink Programme. You can find out how/if it affects you here: Thameslink Programme : Southeastern Your best best is to travel to London Waterloo East Station (the one between London Bridge and Charing Cross). Southwark Underground station is under Waterloo East and you can get the Jubilee Line to Canning Town and change onto the DLR (or get the bus... or walk) from there to Excel Edited December 11, 2014 by elsiegee40

Custom House DLR is in Zone 3 and Victoria in Zone 1. The precise fare depends on whether or not you travel at peak times. If you don't have an Oyster card, using a contactless Credit or Debit Card is th easiest way to pay. You just touch it to the Oystercard Reader on the barrier. CAM Posted December 11, 2014 Posted December 11, 2014 See if a TravelCard comes as part of your coach/rail fare. With the exception of Zones 1-6, you cannot buy a paper TravelCard in Central London on TFL services. You will either have to use Oyster (cheapest fare but needs a £3 deposit and top-up) or a contactless debit card (which I have never tried but apparently you tap in and out with it). Also please be aware: ALL TFL BUSES NO LONGER ACCEPT CASH!

I was looking at the 2015 Fares table which says Zone: Zones 1-3 Cash: £4.80 Peak Single: £3.30 Off Peak Single: £2.80 Capping - Daily Anytime: £7.50 Capping - Daily Offpeak: £7.50 Daily Travelcard (Anytime/Offpeak): £12.00 The most you should pay is £12.00. The smart card system is clever and you don't pay more than the travelcard fare for the day. it works it out. If you insist on buying a paper ticket, there are machines in Victoria tube station. The manned ticket offices have mostly closed now.

Pay as you go with capping means you don't need to decide in advance which ticket would be the most suitable, allowing you to be flexible with your travel throughout a day or week without needing to buy additional tickets or worrying that you have spent more than you need. Caps are applied automatically at the end of each day where appropriate. You must touch in on and out on every journey (touch in only on buses and trams) using the same contactless payment card to benefit from capping. Maximum fares charged for incomplete journeys do not count towards a cap. How does it work? For all the journeys you make, the system automatically keeps a running total of: All the zones you travel through The time you touch in on each journey (this determines both the fare and the daily cap) All fares paid in a single day All fares paid between each Monday and the following Sunday When the total cost for all journeys reaches a pre-determined limit, a cap is applied. elsiegee40 Posted December 11, 2014 Author Posted December 11, 2014 (edited) Actually you have missed two key columns for the attachments for your post. The £7.50 is the Capped maximum. So the most you will pay is £7.50 for the day using a contactless card. Read the TfL link in my post before about capping. Depending on the timings of your bus, you could end up paying as little as £2.80 * 2 = £5.60 for 2 offpeak singles. A Peak single fare is £3.30 NOT £7.50 with a contactless card. From Woking they go on a detour through Virginia Water adding 30 mins to your journey. North of Weybridge there is a bus replacement service. I guess there would be more freebies on the first day than the last? From a travel point of view, it depends on the engineering works, but there's not a lot of difference. Saturday has a different atnosphere to the first 3 days when the hard selling is done and operations are winding down, but the vendors are usually desperate to get rid of their freebies as they don't want to cart them back, so they are more easily obtained! 1

BKGarry Posted January 12, 2015 Posted January 12, 2015 Well I am going up on Friday, just had it confirmed from our Headteacher (she wants me to look at these new fangled LED whiteboards over the ones with projectors :-) ) I will be looking at anything I can play with and looking at our next lot of laptops. I am really lucky, because I live in Gravesend I can get the off peak (after 9:30) HS1 train from Gravesend to Stratford International (which only takes about 15mins) then DLR straight to Excel :-) will @VeryPC be frequenting the same place as last year?

Saturday afternoon is pretty good, anything that's not nailed down is usually fair game as many exhibitors would rather give it away than pack it back up and lug it home. But that's just our little secret right...

But that's just our little secret right... Problem with going Saturday is that I would be giving up my own time to go. I wouldn't get paid for my time there so I would rather just go during paid work time.

I've done all days over the years (doing thur-sat this year) and I tend to find that earlier in the week exhibitors are pretty tight about giving anything away as they are worried stock won't last the week if they go too mad too early

Also going on Friday means I can spend all day walking around getting knackered and not worry about having to get up early next day for work.

Change at West Hampstead for the Jubilee Line to Canning Town. Alternatively change at King's Cross for the Northern Line to Bank and take any DLR going towards Canning Town (or direct to Custom House on the Beckton line!). - Those travelling from Brighton and Gatwick may be able to catch a limited service to London Bridge for the Jubilee Line to Canning Town. Alternatively, change at East Croydon for Southern services to London Bridge. - Southern services will continue to call at London Bridge, good news for those from Uckfield, Purley, etc. In addition, Thameslink may call at Redhill in peak time weekdays giving more options. Check before you travel. - South Eastern trains are badly affected. Trains to Charing Cross will not call at London Bridge and you will need to change to a train for Cannon Street before reaching Inner London so you can get to London Bridge for the Jubilee Line. Alternatively, you can exit at Waterloo East and walk over the passenger bridge to Waterloo Station where you can catch the Jubilee Line. If you still wind up at Charing Cross, no worries, take a train to go back a stop or use Northern/Bakerloo Line to go to Waterloo. Engineering work may change any of this advice at the last minute. You can use contactless debit or credit cards on the Underground and Buses if you don't have an Oyster card. There is no need to get an Oyster Card if you don't have one.... unless, of course, you don't have a contactless card It's a clever system and will stop charging you once you hit the cost of a daily/weekly travelcard.
