Badaz52 Posted December 11, 2014 Posted December 11, 2014 Hi, We are looking into classroom management options at the moment as we are using a very old version of Ab Tutor (version 5!) I'm assuming most people use Net Support School but I wondered what other good alternatives are out there. Also if anyone is using net support school could you give me an idea of how much it costs? Many thanks
Steve21 Posted December 11, 2014 Posted December 11, 2014 Currently trialing Impero here, as always does pretty much everything, it's just whether the cost for percentage of the parts of it you use is worth while Steve
Arreks Posted December 11, 2014 Posted December 11, 2014 Also using Impero, was definitely a good purchase for us. Does everything you need once you get the hang of it, from web filtering to eco schedules/power management. You can also do your AUP in it! Though I wish they'd add the ability to search the logs..
DevilsAdvocate Posted December 11, 2014 Posted December 11, 2014 Also using Impero here and find it very useful as do a number of staff. @Arreks - not sure what you mean? Top right.

DevilsAdvocate Posted December 11, 2014 Posted December 11, 2014 Huh.. I don't see that, maybe I have a different version or something.. @russdev help! We are running v4.2.14 if it helps
Boredguy Posted December 11, 2014 Posted December 11, 2014 Are you using an account with full admin rights to get to the log file? For our staff, we have set their permissions so they can only do classroom based features, and as logs is in the admin tab we only have domain admins have access to it. Oh, on 4.2.14 btw
Arreks Posted December 11, 2014 Posted December 11, 2014 I have full permissions, but I am using 4.1 and not 4.2 (thanks @DevilsAdvocate) so maybe I just need to update to get it.
Boredguy Posted December 11, 2014 Posted December 11, 2014 The way to get to the log files has been in the same location since version 3.5, so no reason why your not getting it.
halbaradkenafin Posted December 11, 2014 Posted December 11, 2014 Impero here too, had a lot of positive feedback from teachers about how much easier it is to use than RM Tutor and the main users (ICT) didn't even need training other than for some little things they wanted to do. We also find it very useful for things like ensuring all the updates get done when rebuilding a few PCs, they get pushed out by SCCM but its useful to be able to manually push the process along to ensure they're up to date as soon as possible.
dhicks Posted December 11, 2014 Posted December 11, 2014 We are looking into classroom management options at the moment as we are using a very old version of Ab Tutor (version 5!) We were using an old version of AB Tutor, but it turned out an upgrade was only £80 per "teacher machine" license, which we figured was good value for money, and the pupil client license is still free, of course.
localzuk Posted December 11, 2014 Posted December 11, 2014 (edited) We're on ABTutor here. New version coming soon too I believe. Been an ABTutor user since 2007. Works great for classroom management, just lacks the tracking abilities of Impero. Edited December 11, 2014 by localzuk
russdev Posted December 11, 2014 Posted December 11, 2014 The search been there since version 3 make sure in console access rights under log viewer not got full access. If still got issue let me know will get one of the support team to look for you. Russ
Grey-gear Posted December 11, 2014 Posted December 11, 2014 We use Impero, pricey but good, also I have used netsupport cheaper and works well.

DorsetTech Posted December 12, 2014 Posted December 12, 2014 AB Tutor here too. Impero looks nice (and I enjoyed the trial), but it is hard to justify the cost and their licensing model doesn't work for us (as teachers don't use it, just technical staff)
beancole Posted December 12, 2014 Posted December 12, 2014 I used to use AB tutor at my old school and I desperately miss it. Think I'll be making a purchase.
m25man Posted December 12, 2014 Posted December 12, 2014 AB Tutor v8 will be available as a subscription from January 2015
