Just has a UPS battery die on a fairly old Riello UPS.

I want to get x2 new ones to replace the faulty and aging ones in my comms room.

Attached will be Phone system needs x2 psu, router, firewall, internet filter, and a couple of other devices.

Can anyone recommend a UPS that would suit this need. I dont want get something that isnt up to it or go overkill on it either.

Can be rack mountable or to sit on a shelf

Yup. Obviously you'll need to figure out the connections, you might find it best to fit the female plug (they are supplied with some ends usually) to an extension lead for grouped items such as router/modem as long as they don't exceed 13a of course.

We have the Riello ones where I am and they seem fine, infact very large shiny and nice, I have also had good success with Borri in my past life. We do have APCs as well but I've always been cautious of the smaller APC kit as it never seems to last past a Battery replacement, so maybe worth keeping that in mind.

We use Eaton UPSs at work. We've had them two years now and *touch wood* they've been rock solid.

Can't remember the model number off of the top of my head, but they've got plenty of outputs and the monitoring software is pretty good too.

We had an issue with our APC UPS (there was a loud bang, and smoke came out the front - never good in a a UPS, I feel), but APC were very helpful about sorting it out, replacing the unit for free even though we were out of the warrenty period.

Running a SmartUPS 1000 here, on its 3rd set of batteries. So its lasting well. The other one we had (same model) only lasted 2 sets though. Our twin 5kVA units are on their second set too, and they're working fine.

We got a 10kVA model at my last school, and that one went pop first time we turned it on after the sparkies wired it up. APC had a replacement out to us within a day. So, they've got good customer service, that's for sure.

APC in nearly all the primary schools (APC Smart UPS - usually 1500VA tower, except one which has a HP UPS system which is shocking!) and at the main base we have rack mounted 2 APC SmartUPS 3000VA and an APC SmartUPS 5000VA powering all our servers. Slight overkill, but when it was installed it was what was needed, but since then the number of physical servers has been reducing as we virtualise more. Can't fault APC when there are problems like the rotten egg smell coming from one of them, they immediately sent out a brand new replacement for it, not just the battery pack and extended the warranty too.

As for changing batteries, I have swapped over 1 battery pack in a 1500VA and one in one of the 3000VA, all the rest have been fine and no issues with the hardware after a battery change.
