bennz Posted December 5, 2014 Posted December 5, 2014 A shop chain in Australia removed GTAV because of its "violence against women" among other things. The internet has responded in its usual humorous fashion - Petition asking Target to ban Bible goes viral
CHR1S Posted December 5, 2014 Posted December 5, 2014 GTA in some form of bad publicity shock.... quelle surprise
localzuk Posted December 5, 2014 Posted December 5, 2014 I can entirely understand (but disagree with) the point about first person violence being offensive, however I have a few issues with this petition and the game's removal. In GTA V there is a scene where you torture a bloke. Is that not just as bad as violence against women? Is violence against women alone the bad thing in it? Not to mention, what is so special about GTA V? How does it differ to the thousands of violent movies and other video games on the market?
JJonas Posted December 5, 2014 Posted December 5, 2014 Slashdotted Australian Target Stores Ban GTA V For Depictions of Violence Against Women - Slashdot
j_the_geek Posted December 5, 2014 Posted December 5, 2014 Also (spoilers) you torture a guy in Dishonored.
CAM Posted December 5, 2014 Posted December 5, 2014 I've seen the scene in question and laughed at how utterly crass and poor quality it is. I went into first person and you don't see anything, just a character model moving about waaaay too close to the camera. Gives no in-game benefits that I could see and when it was over, I just drove off and left the NPC alive (like any other civilian I try to avoid killing deliberately unless I want their car because they keep running me over when I try a highway-man style carjacking). Then back into GTA Online where I spend most of my time hijacking cars and holding up gas stations/convenience stores, which suspiciously are all staffed by men of ethnic origin. When you see it you realise how pathetic a thing it is to complain about!
synaesthesia Posted December 5, 2014 Posted December 5, 2014 People are pathetic, period. Double standards are part of life. Perfectly acceptable to see similar levels of violence depicted in Neighbours/Home and Away/Hollyoaks/Peppa Pig, but as soon as it involves a video game... it all goes belly up.

pcstru Posted December 5, 2014 Posted December 5, 2014 Woah - the latest series must have taken a dark turn. Brian Blessed plays an entirely different kind of rabbit...
Grey-gear Posted December 5, 2014 Posted December 5, 2014 I can't think of one seen in the game where to progress the story I need to violence to a female character in the game but there are parts of the game that I will not replay (such as the torturing mission as @localzuk stated)
PotNoodleTech Posted December 5, 2014 Posted December 5, 2014 I can't help but think I've seen this all before? Oh that's right, Carmageddon was forced to replace human characters with zombies due to outrage @ the violence, nearly a decade ago. GTA5 seems to be equally violent to all genders, races, ability's, animals.
X-13 Posted December 5, 2014 Posted December 5, 2014 (edited) The internet has responded in its usual humorous fashion - Petition asking Target to ban Bible goes viral I've also seen a petition to remove 50 shades of grey and for Target to change its name because violence. Also: "We don't want to take your games away, we just want [thing that already exists]" "We're not Jack Thompson" Petitions to have GTA removed from sale. LITERALLY what Jack Thompson did. Le EDIT: Just seen on teh twittars "Target needs to stop selling Mario" petition. Edited December 5, 2014 by X-13
