featured_spectre Posted December 3, 2014 Posted December 3, 2014 (edited) OK, so just by walking around at work, I worked out that I walk around 1 mile a day (give or take) just at the office. I made a spreadsheet covering the distance walked to Mordor from the shire. My spreadsheet covers - daily distance covered, total distance walked, total distance remaining, average per day, and how many days left if you walked your average per day. If anyone is interested and wants to do it also, feel free *NB I do walk to the office from the gym in the mornings, which is an additional mile, and at the gym I cycle anywhere between 10-20 miles, and row for anywhere between 1-5 miles depending on how tired I am.Walk to Mordor.xlsx Edited December 3, 2014 by featured_spectre new sheet attached instead - click the link, not the attached files. 2
beancole Posted December 3, 2014 Posted December 3, 2014 get a pedometer (android/iphone) I bet you do more than a mile I cover 3-4 in a good day.
featured_spectre Posted December 3, 2014 Author Posted December 3, 2014 Thats what I was using. My office block isn't that large, so don't really cover much of a distance going around to everyone. When I worked in a school this could easily be changed to 5 miles.
sonofsanta Posted December 3, 2014 Posted December 3, 2014 Pfft. Walking. I attend all support requests on the back of a giant eagle! 2
Andrew_C Posted December 3, 2014 Posted December 3, 2014 at the gym I cycle anywhere between 10-20 miles If Frodo had had a bike, those films would have been a sight shorter!
featured_spectre Posted December 3, 2014 Author Posted December 3, 2014 Indeed it would have. However the story was fine as it was. I may do the hobbit journey as well.
Andrew_C Posted December 3, 2014 Posted December 3, 2014 I may do the hobbit journey as well.Oh don't get me wrong; I think Jackson did a superb job on LOTR. The Hobbit however, has been so "padded" with fight scenes (so that is will make a good game) that I'm afraid it has lost its way. I've no problem with adding the stuff that was going on "around" Tolkin's book, but jeez, those rabbits?
sonofsanta Posted December 3, 2014 Posted December 3, 2014 The bit that annoyed me was the storm giant things having a big scrap around the mountains in the first film. As BIG and DRAMATIC and EXCITING as it looks, I spent the whole scene wondering when it was going to end because it didn't matter at all. Completely irrelevant to characters and plot and so I had no investment in it at all. It was like a music video interval, it was so meaningless.
featured_spectre Posted December 3, 2014 Author Posted December 3, 2014 How does one simply walk that? Simple...2000 paces is on average 1 mile. Have a pedometer and calculate the distance. Job done. Plus you're not walking INTO mordor (despite the fact that is exactly what they did).
LeMarchand Posted December 3, 2014 Posted December 3, 2014 You should add milestones in: "You have reached Rivendell!" "You'll need a torch - you have reached the Mines of Moria" etc.
featured_spectre Posted December 3, 2014 Author Posted December 3, 2014 Oooh good idea. Will do that!
featured_spectre Posted December 3, 2014 Author Posted December 3, 2014 Major milestones for Mordor added! Walk to Mordor.xlsx 1

JJonas Posted December 3, 2014 Posted December 3, 2014 any Game of Thrones fan care to add Westeros distances to this? I know Kings Landing to Winterfell is 1500 miles
