[ipad] Apple Configurator Confusion.

HELP!

 

If I only want to use Apple Configurator on my Mac Mini to "Supervise" (or lock down) a couple of iPads do I need to use the "Prepare" option first?

 

When I plug an iPAD in via USB it appears on the "Supervise" menu but when I click on the "Prepare" menu and then click Prepare at the bottom it warns "Do I want to apply these settings to all USB-connected devices"

 

If I click Apply I get taken to another screen which shows "All Devices (0).

 

How can this part of the Configurator not see the same device that is plugged in and visible by the "Supervise" section?

 

 

Basically I want a way to wipe iPads - install the latest ios with a consistent naming convention (which I thought was the PREPARE section)

and

then lock them down with a profile (which I thought was the SUPERVISE section!

From what I have understood from using Apple Configurator, if they are already in the supervise section it means they have previously been prepared. You should be able to set them to update to the latest version from there. If you want to completely prepare them again though, right clicking on them in the supervise section and clicking "unsupervise" will then make them appear in the prepare section again. This will also restore them to factory settings as well if they are plugged in at the time

We do exactly what you want. We create the profile with settings/restrictions on, also apps etc then prepare it to all iPads. Then you can backup a single iPad using Configurator and assign the backup to restore every time you plug it into the usb.

We also set the naming convention for iPads using configurator.

You need to put the iPad into restore mode. Do so by turning out off, holding down the Home button then plugging it into the Mac. Configurator will then wipe the iPad, install the latest iOS along with the settings you made.

Configurator will auto upgrade the latest iOS if you select the option in configurator to do so.

 

If you restore a backup then you don't need to do anything with the iPad, configurator will do the rest.
