round2it Posted November 25, 2014 Posted November 25, 2014 Hi everyone I am in need of a web based simple database that staff can input who they have tried to contact via telephone. Ideal would be Date/time staff name parent called. no other info needed something simple that could cun on my wamp setup reason behind it is I am sick of the did you ring such and such all staff emails any ideas
vyperz Posted November 25, 2014 Posted November 25, 2014 LOL. i feel your pain. I have tried to implement a system here where the teacher who has called a parent simply sends the receptionist an email saying "Tried to call Joe Soap's Mum" - it doesn't work! I was told by one of the teachers that would be 'a bit email heavy' !! hmm, one email as opposed to 100+ that 99+ are going to simply delete.... logic is non existent! 1
PotNoodleTech Posted November 25, 2014 Posted November 25, 2014 Use a google survey? Gives them a super simple form to fill in and gives you an excel spreadsheet with all the data? We use SIMS for that, they add a comment on the pupil. 1
Ecalpemos2000 Posted November 26, 2014 Posted November 26, 2014 I think there is an actual place in sims to record this. I don't use sims now but it was, I believe, in an area called communications or contact. Staff could log all parental contact and a report could be generated. 1

However, most school MISs have facility builtin and it is better to use your existing system if at all possible, Edited November 26, 2014 by elsiegee40 1
round2it Posted November 26, 2014 Author Posted November 26, 2014 I agree communication should be recorded in sims (i will bring this up with management) I will look at google forms to see if I can work something out. The reason i wanted web based pref hosted on site is because of the 2 click rule (any more than 2 clicks and teaching staff will not understand or use it) Thanks

Staff training is cheaper than a new system However, unless you are the line manager you will not change habits even with a new system. Write a 'how to' guide for SIMS or whichever system and go see the Head 1

GeeDee86 Posted November 26, 2014 Posted November 26, 2014 Hi... we're currently trialling SIMS Communication Log... think it's going well
round2it Posted November 26, 2014 Author Posted November 26, 2014 yes i looked at that this morning and I think we should be using it. - - - Updated - - - Not all. You produce the guide and it then becomes somebody else's problem D I wish it worked like that here
PotNoodleTech Posted November 27, 2014 Posted November 27, 2014 Really, you need management buy in in order to affect change like this. If SMT/Head are not the least bit interested in what you're doing here then you're trying to swim up a waterfall methinks and it might be better for you to just swim around in the plunge pool instead, maybe with a lilo and drink of your choice? 2
Ecalpemos2000 Posted November 27, 2014 Posted November 27, 2014 Make a list with slt called the none negotiables and the coms process is one of them. Sell it to slt as audit trail for umbrella putting up if anything to do with comms with parents was to go wrong. Another for the list is registers. Ans then name and shame offenders and add in to performance management. The staff will then use the correct procedure. 1
