interele Posted November 25, 2014 Posted November 25, 2014 We have been looking for a server that would allow students to hand in work electronically. At the moment we have a moodle box with everything removed except assignments and it's fine but it strikes us a massive overkill. Has anyone got any suggestions Ta M
BKGarry Posted November 25, 2014 Posted November 25, 2014 https://owncloud.org/install/ has always interested me :-)
interele Posted November 25, 2014 Author Posted November 25, 2014 We have tried ownCloud and we have never got the document preview/edit to work that well. Even though we are a LibreOffice place the documents often don't display correctly in ownCloud M
SHimmer45 Posted November 25, 2014 Posted November 25, 2014 been looking at using a "owncloud" but been struggling to get the group and user mappings to function correctly through LDAP authentication, and thats even before i look at mapping user folders. lots of conflicting information about how to do it. i get the feeling that its still very much under development?
interele Posted November 25, 2014 Author Posted November 25, 2014 I got the user and group mapping to openldap ( ie rfc2307bis - openSUSE ) to work quite well but it was a nightmare. I can send you what worked for me if you want. We only do Linux here so if it's AD then I'm lost too M
SHimmer45 Posted November 25, 2014 Posted November 25, 2014 its a 2012R2 domain, might look to see if the windows version is a bit more friendly
jinnantonnixx Posted November 25, 2014 Posted November 25, 2014 Syncthing Or, although there have been a few question marks over their privacy policy, maybe Bittorrent sync? Should I Use BitTorrent Sync Instead of Dropbox?
chris_uk Posted November 25, 2014 Posted November 25, 2014 Owncloud with Active directory login's. We are just moving all of our gov'nors over to it. We also use it for sending out large files, ISO's off to be duplicated, photos for the press, files for other network managers when students move schools. It's awesome.
Arthur Posted November 25, 2014 Posted November 25, 2014 Has anyone got any suggestions AeroFS Private Cloud? I know you mentioned self-hosted, but have you considered Google Classroom / Google Drive? Syncthing ... or Pulse (which is the new name for Syncthing).
cpjitservices Posted December 1, 2014 Posted December 1, 2014 We have a fair few customers on our own self hosted cloud running on Owncloud. We use CentOS servers. Nice and easy.
rob_coles Posted December 1, 2014 Posted December 1, 2014 Is it possible to use owncloud with free mobile apps?
SHimmer45 Posted December 2, 2014 Posted December 2, 2014 We have a fair few customers on our own self hosted cloud running on Owncloud. We use CentOS servers. Nice and easy. are you mapping user folders to Windows Server?
cpjitservices Posted December 2, 2014 Posted December 2, 2014 Nope, we just sell it to customers over the internet.
