My electronic circuit?

Hey,

 

I have recently fixed my PS3 with a "fan mod"- it is plugged directly into the mains via an 10v 1a adapter. The fan goes at 80-90% speed ALL the time- it does not bother me as much since I just put closed ear headphones on. However, if there is someone else in the room... Well.. You can see where this is going. My question- is there a way of reducing the voltage in a variable fashion? I am looking at something like a variable resistor but I am crap at picking the right one. Am I even on the corrent path here? The fan has 3 wires, so does the variable resistor- I just have the fan hooked up with 10v and GRD.

Depending on the fan connector, you could use something like a Zalman Fanmate. Only a few quid, it's a little variable resistor with two three pin plugs.

So I plug in the fan end to the fan connector on the fanmate, but how do i power up the actual unit? Can I just use a 12v power adapter? My motherboard fan connector broke off.

If you do a google search for ps3 potentiometer there's a few suggestions. Some are saying to use a 100k potentiometer
