i don't quite know where to put this one so i'll put it in here where it should get some attention.

 

basically we are having some pretty bad problems with one of our cctv boxes. all of the cameras are run to it by coax, they run into a capture card and then the shoddy software records stuff, and should, in theory stream to a remote box. but it doesnt do that. because its shoddy.

 

so really, we want a new solution. preferably free but i know we're not going to get anything good for free.

 

if anybody knows of software which can record 16 to 32 streams and accept connections from a remote client to view them, and its decent, could you PLEAAASE tell me!

Milestone XProtect is as good as you get.

I did have some pricing on it somwhere but that's probably out of date.

it looks as if the xprotect stuff is ip camera only unfortunately, all of our cameras are coax cameras.

 

zoneminder looks alright though, we're pulling one of the defunct boxes out of somewhere and will try it soon to see if it works

You can get coax to ip converters, axis do one.

You can put axis media converters on your cameras to change them from analogue to IP.

goddamn thats expensive but it does look like £4,633 worth of software.

 

how much do those convertors go for though? and where the boxes are currently located we'd need to buy a switch each for them for them to work aswell.

Have a look at the Digital Sprite systems from http://www.dedicatedmicros.com as well. We have one and (while not as flexible as an Axis setup) it connects to coax cameras and is networked - needs a client app to view.

With the Digital Sprite 2 system you can view cameras through a web browser.

we have a few of these that link to most of the on site cctv units. They do a decent job We have also just had some axis cameras too, impressed with the software compared to DS but more costly though.

We've moved away from IP cameras and completely kitted out the school with Samsung DVR's and CCTV cameras, coax. Fixed and Domes.

 

Still need more camera's though. Despite the DVRs supporting close to 150 and us not having space left for many more.

Eacxq Vision is good software a bit more expensive now because of the dollar rate but believe it is alot cheaper than milestone. Supports analogue and IP but you will need a supported capture device for analogue. can be installed in a windows server enviroment or Linux
