RS Admissions over iSAMS

Good afternoon,

 

At the start of the 2013 academic year we successfully implemented iSAMS into school as our MIS. We are looking at ways of boosting our reporting/analysis of our admissions data. Currently it feels like iSAMS is very limited in this regard and so we are looking into RS Admissions. Does anybody have any feedback on this software or ideas of others?

Well back in the day I looked at this as an admissions package. Then, it looked like an access database. Didn't give it a second thought. Of course, you have the issue of getting the data into iSAMS so as not to have to do what my school was doing: manual entry. We were going to SIMS and just shelled out on R&A within SIMS. Is the isams portal really not up to the task here (surprises me given it is an independent sector application).

 

Having said all that this was several years ago!

Agree with Greed when I had to deal with it it was an access database, had its moments at times and at that time needed them to be very hands on to do anything with it eg installs, configs, setups etc.. so was a bit of a pain in the bum. Maybe its improved since then as this was a few years ago but MS access urgh!

We're still using it and it's still an Access database although they've informed us that they are currently changing it to something else. We've all but decided to move to iSAMS for admissions though

I guess it is a niche product but I must say I am shocked to hear it hasn't move forward in all this time!

Have you spoken to iSAMS about the areas of concern? As they are very responsive and will tailor solutions to the school so I hear, you might be better off getting them to better the analysis or write you some custom reports.

My school uses iSAMS. When we moved to iSAMS we switched our admissions process from RS Admissions to iSAMS at the same time as we wanted to reduce the number of independent databases.

 

For reporting and analysis we use SQL Server Reporting Services, which we use pretty much across the board in all of the modules. (iSAMS offer training on this.) We've been able to deal with all our reporting and analysis requirements this way.

We ditched RS Admissions in the last couple of years in favour of iSAMS for all of our admissions data. We've had iSAMS create some custom reports for us but also written many in house using SSRS.

 

I think iSAMS should really include a few more reports as standard.

The database platform is changing to SQL in 2015 - it has never been an Access application simply an Access database. Edited December 2, 2014 by vikpaw
