after having a good go last night completing all the training up until the heat and running silent one. which after 3-4 deaths made me give up. I jumped into open play as sunnyknight said found it a bit hard to get a direction. i haven't killed anyone yet i did attack a authority ship which showed me why I shouldn't do that ^^ need to do some trading to get some money as for some unknown reason I racked up a 3000+ fine on the starting station....

I couldn't understand that one for the life of me. I was THIS close to throwing my screen out the window.

The servers keep crashing on me, which is cheeeeeeesing me off. Evidently... what i thought was a pirate.... turned out to be a authority mining vessel. Don't shoot it, or destroy it. They've got harsh backup.

Need a bigger ship! How do you change your ingame name? Need to knowwwwww :(

im struggling to find the particular vessels I have to kill for missions.. I cant find them or identify where to look other than the specified system.! I look around for warzone ships I don't find any :( also it was my first night on it last night and the server issues really messed it up for me :( but for the time I did get to play it was such a good game even though I have completed only one mission to do with sales hahaha

You need to find a "Conflict Zone" - there are some around Eranin (probably Eranin 4 planet)

You change your IGN on the Elite website :) and running silent is quite easy once you understand the concept, running silent closes off vents etc and turns off most non-vital parts of the ship. But because the vents are closed, heat builds up internally - this is why it's unorthodox to run silent if you don't have a heatsink launcher.

Agreed on the trading, although the first runs you do enable you to get to grips with the basics and ease yourself into the game. In earlier versions, the trade part actually made some quite hard barriers where lower ranked, poorly equipped and less cash-rich payers would struggle to get past as there would be large regions where you could only jump at almost maximum range (meaning you had to dock to get fuel - unless you had a fuel scoop) and such evenly matched prices in each (anarchic) system meant that you would have to fight every inch of the way to the stations for little or no profit. Often you would be well down in funds once you refulled, replaced weapons and repaired damage.

Besides, there's nothing like the feeling of getting a big score and finding it can be a regular run.

The thing about Elite is is that it's deep, immersive and rewards those who put in the effort.

I for one can't wait for the major release.

Exactly this. A lot of people are complaining about mining, but if you put the time and effort into finding a good location with high metallic content - you could end up making 100-250k per half an hour. Same goes for trading, but it's understandable for people to get annoyed/bored and stop doing it..

My advice for everyone who plays Elite is to look into EDTracker - budget head tracking made by 3 people on the Elite beta forum. It's absolutely amazing and considering how expensive TrackIR/Oculus Rifts are it's well worth it if you want to be more immersed.

what are the tell tale signs of a "Conflict Zone"?

It will show in the Navigation panel when you're close to one, fly around the planet Eranin 4 and get relatively close - you'll notice a Federal Distress beacon which most people think counts towards warzone missions but it doesn't. It will either be "Conflict Zone (High Intensity)" or "Conflict Zone (Low Intensity").

Federal Distress beacons are quite good for earning cash when you're in a sidewinder or eagle because the enemies are always sidewinders (be sure to choose a faction).

Conflict Zones generally have Cobras etc and can be much more challenging.

ah thank you very much!!! :) I shall have a go when I get home! I might hold off on the conflict missions then and do some trading ^^

Doing 'take this message' style trade missions are by far the easiest ones you can grab - sometimes you'll be lucky and have a few going to the same place. The bulletin board does change often as well, so make sure you keep checking it whenever you dock.

I for one don't like the fact that if your ship is destroyed.... its gone. As in... gone gone.... lol

Well you can get your exact ship back if you pay enough, insurance is always there.

Made the mistake of buying a hauler last night :(

Turns out, i could have better'd myself just spending that money to upgrade my sidewinder...... ahhh the steep learning curve. Now you show yourself.

i'm saving for the angel. I've done a fair few trades now found a place with cheap reactive armour snatched that up made 30k+ credits from them ^^. Got into a fight with a viper had to leg it very quickly ha-ha! and one of hose interdiction thingy's turned ugly last night too. I finally died from a cracked cockpit ran out of air just as docking .... little bit of rage there!

What angel? I see no angel on the ship list. WHAT MADNESS ARE YOU SPEAKING?!

How'd you run out of air? lol.... what have you been doing?!

I'm going to look at selling off my hauler + money for a viper.

That being said... @Dos_Box i understand how excited you must be about the release. Simply typing this has made me go into... a hormonal era of excitement and nervousness.

BRING IT ON Beeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeees. (amended for known reasons)

I've tried all the current ships so far (except Imperial Dropship) and Viper is still my favourite. It's had it's turning ability etc reduced since the last Beta release but that can be fixed if you get some upgraded thrusters, it's a beauty.

You'd probably earn more money mining/trading at first until you can handle taking out anacondas and the like, though. I had to fully upgrade my thrusters and shields on my Viper before I could make decent money from it.

*edit*

I've made an Elite: Dangerous group, in case anyone wanted to meet up/discuss tips/shoot eachother or whatever.

Wait wait wait wait wait........

How did you confuse EAGLE.... with..... ANGEL....

No honestly, lol..... how?

Apparently mining isn't worth it for low level newbies.... not until we get a decent rig anyway (so i've read on forums and on guides)

Brought beta last night and had my first stumble into it at lunch time today, straight online managed to undock/dock and first jump got me hammered by an unfriendly, second jump managed to make 500cr :D. I was sucked in from watching too many videos on youtube and remembering the times I used to play elite on the bbc computers at school. One of my friends at school was big time into it because he had a bbc at home (lucky bugger). I only got to play at school.

Going to try out mouse/keyboard and 360 controller tonight, if i cant get on with either of those i'll have to get myself a stick (that thrustmaster seems good VFM) which will also get use with il2 (possibly new one after the reviews come out), and DCS World and may make me buy some of the addons.

The thrustmaster HOTAS is one of the best budget sets in my opinion, you wouldn't regret buying (I use mine with War Thunder, Elite & DCS)

well trying to find an upgraded reactor for the eagle is proving a lot more troublesome than it needs to be :( on the plus side torpedoes and

gimbled pulse laser work well knock out a targets shield then drop a torpedo on them. However I only drop torpedoes when fighting fairly superior vessel like a viper or anaconda as its a 15k reload cost!

All you can do is keep trying high technology systems, the outfitting market changes as well every now and then so eventually you'll find one! :)

It's like shooting solid gold isn't it..
