Desktop Booklet Printer That Staple.

Hey,

 

I've been asked to get a new printer that can create booklets when needed and I'm just looking for some recommendations.

 

Requirements:

Must be a desktop, Size doesn't matter too much but must be able to get on a desk

Must have a finisher unit that can fold and staple A5 booklets from A4 paper (2 staples in spine)

The usual network, duplex etc

 

Doesn't need to have scan/copy functions but if you know a good one that does I don't mind.

I'm not sure you'll find something to go on to the desktop that has a finisher to make booklets. As they're usually quite large?

But I think you'd have to 'pre-print' the booklet, it's just a folding and stapling machine. Depends on the reasons why you want this, but might be wiser geting a photocopier with a booklet maker finisher. Would be a lot faster and probably more precise.

That's what they use at the moment but that means the user has to leave their office and go to reprographics and "hog" the PC in there while doing their booklets and the deputy head agrees she needs her own.

How big is your site? How many staff? That's very strange, booklet makers are really expensive - she would still have to print to the photocopier in the reprographics room so it wouldn't solve the problem.

Usually the built in stapler of a desktop printer is an off-line one. i.e. its nothing more than an electric stapler bolted on to the side or the printer, and you have to manually insert the corner of the pages you want stapling. They don't do booklets. For that you need something big enough to fit a proper finishing unit on as the folding/stapling mechanism has to be pretty complex. These cost mega bucks and by the time you've added the finishing unit, its as big as a photocopier anyway.

I don't see why the user has to hog the pc in the repro room get the copier installed on their computer as a printer and do the job from there?

 

Will still tie up the machine whilst it's making them but a copier is the only real candidate for an all in one device.

The PC in repro isn't even used that much tbh. I'm assuming they don't want to have to walk over to the repro room from there office.

Were an 800 student school so not that big and apparently don't have a lot of cash so I don't understand it either just doing what I'm told. I'll just report back what they want doesn't exist.

 

P.S. I could have sworn I've seen a desktop Konica with a staple unit and I've found a couple of desktop printer that staple automagically but only in the corner not how I need it, that probably what I'm remembering.

We are a similar sized school. We have 4 multi-function photocopiers in school. 3 for teaching staff, one for the office admin staff and that's the only one that has a finisher with a booklet maker and stapler. Anything that needs to be a booklet gets sent to the office for printing - its part of their remit. That system seems to work for us.

This looks good but for what the purpose is it's a completely impractical idea @spend_idea. Show them that demo video and they can see that they'd have to manually insert each booklet. A total waste of time for the staff member, who may change their mind about printing to the repro room very quickly when they realise that manually inserting each booklet is the alternative. I agree with @plexer - add the printer to their machine and they can print direct from there.

I think you may be looking at a leased photocopier. I know Koncia do a unit but needs floor space
