I'm running into the same issue of Java not installing through SCCM 2012 and getting a 1603 error. My logs mirror those posted here. The machines do have an old version of Java 6 and I am deploying both 64 and 32 bit versions of 8_25. Here's what I have figured out:

 

- If I run the msiexec string posted here in an elevated command prompt, it will install without issue. I can then deploy the x64 version from SCCM without issue.

- Uninstalling the old version of Java doesn't help.

- Other MSI application deployments work without issue (comment subject to change due to the nature of SCCM).

 

This was tested on our lab machines that are heavily managed. I am going to test this on another machine that isn't as highly managed.

I am having the same issue with Java 8 u25, the msi installer fails with Error 1721: There is a problem with this Windows Installer package. A program required for this install to complete could not be run. Contact your support personnel or package vendor. I was trying to upgrade from Java 7 u67 to Java 8, using SCCM. Never had a problem before, and Java 7 uninstalled just fine, just can't install 8 from the MSI file. If I run the EXE it installs fine, but that is not how I want to be deploying to my user PCs. Is this perhaps just an issue with this MSI package?

My two cents:

 

I have been able to semi-automatically install update 25 on about 10 systems. I say "semi" because even though I specified the "SILENT" switch, I still had to click on "Yes" for the prompt "Do you want to allow this program to make changes on your computer?" This was while logged in as a restricted user, but launching the install script with my Domain Admin credentials.

 

I've deployed several versions of Java via SCCM 2012 and never had this issue crop up. Like many others, it was a matter of finding the MSI, building the application, and letting it run.

I did a quick test in a VM and both JREs installed successfully under the SYSTEM account (like SCCM would).

The ALLUSERS switch makes no difference for me. I have tried installing as a local admin, normal user, and SCCM system account, and all are failing on the MSI installer.

It's redundant anyway since the property is already included in the MSI itself.

This post on Stack Overflow seems to suggest that your MSIs are either corrupt or you're using relative paths in your msiexec command?

 

Can you verify the checksums of your MSIs to eliminate that? Mine are as follows:

Excuse the Newbie question, but are you calling the cmd line parameters from the sccm java program cmd line or via some sort of config file?

Arthur is that an .mst file you are using? I tried mine (Orca) and it looks very different relative to prior versions and for 8u25 it does not seem to work

I can't see any reason why it wouldn't work. Using an .mst isn't any different from specifying the parameters separately (although as mentioned in post #2, Oracle have changed the MSI properties for the latest JRE).

I've had a measure of success with at least one machine. I plan on dropping a few more into my test collection tomorrow to see if it's a repeatable success. If so, I will try to put together a How-To for SCCM 2012, if no one has one put together by then.

I'm using SCUP with SCE 2010 to publish Java 8 Updates.

I made a SCUP Package wth the jre1.8.0_25.msi (the msi that you get when you run the exe). I use the Command Line Parameter "AUTO_UPDATE=0 EULA=0 NOSTARTMENU=1 SPONSORS=0 WEB_ANALYTICS=0 WEB_JAVA=1".

 

I approved the Package for a Testgroup with a Windows 7 and Windows 8 VM. In the Win 7 VM the Update installs normally but it doesn't deinstall the old Java 8 Update 5 Plugin. Under C:\program files (x86)\Java there are now two Folders "jre1.8.0_25" with the Update installed over WU and jre8 with the manually installed old Java 8 Update 5. I've never had such problems in the past with Java 6 or Java 7.

 

In the Win8 VM the Update is offered over Windows Update but it won't install. I get the Error Code 6BA and when i dig into the Windows Update Log i see the following Errors:
