Arthur Posted October 9, 2014 Posted October 9, 2014 Source: The Independent In spite of near universal critical acclaim, a strong cult following and a planned US remake from David Fincher, Utopia has been axed by Channel 4. The sci-fi drama only saw two series, debuting in January 2013 and concluding this summer. Channel 4 said it was sad to see the show go, but needed to make room for new commissions (you couldn't just bump off Deal or No Deal?) "Utopia is truly channel-defining: strikingly original, powered by Dennis Kelly's extraordinary voice and brought to life in all its technicolor glory through Marc Munden's undeniable creative flair and vision, the team at Kudos delivered a series which has achieved fervent cult status over two brilliantly warped and nail-biting series," a C4 spokesperson told Den of Geek.
sparkeh Posted October 9, 2014 Posted October 9, 2014 No no no no Why is it with so much on TV the good stuff is always canned.
korifugi Posted October 10, 2014 Posted October 10, 2014 Because it's not the same old 'reality tv' or 'I think I might be moderately talented so I deserve to be famous' generic 5#!te that seems to be prevelant these days... I could go on for hours about how anything actually good and worth watching (although usually sci-fi) gets pulled 'cause it's not 'mainstream' (Space: Above & Beyond? Babylon 5: Crusades?). *shakes fist*
Theblacksheep Posted October 10, 2014 Posted October 10, 2014 That show was awesome, I was really looking forward to Series 3.
LeMarchand Posted October 10, 2014 Posted October 10, 2014 Only just getting caught up with this! Got to S01E06 - loving it so far. Does S2 end on a cliffhanger? I wonder if the US remake has something to do with this news.

Crumpet Posted October 10, 2014 Posted October 10, 2014 It's a shame the axed it. I'll look forward to the David Fincher US version instead.
LeMarchand Posted October 10, 2014 Posted October 10, 2014 I am still distraught that Carnivale was cancelled after two seasons... It's scant consolation, but haven't HBO admitted that they made a mistake there? (They didn't realise how much money they'd make on DVD).

SpuffMonkey Posted October 10, 2014 Posted October 10, 2014 AArrrgghh really bad news - it was so beautifully shot!
speckytecky Posted October 11, 2014 Posted October 11, 2014 Best they cancel Gogglebox as well. The 9/11 item last week was touching a nerve for me but last nights episode saw me switch it off altogether. Totally unacceptable.
LeMarchand Posted November 17, 2014 Posted November 17, 2014 Finally finished! Really enjoyed the show; shame it got cancelled. I wonder how similar the US version will be? I am a bit worried: I sympathised with The Network's aims (though not their methods).

LosOjos Posted November 17, 2014 Posted November 17, 2014 I am a bit worried: I sympathised with The Network's aims (though not their methods). I found that in the first series particularly, it got to be really uneasy watching as you could totally see where they were coming from, but my $deity what a way to handle it! Ad yet, how else could you? Love a program that makes you question yourself. Unfortunately, Channel 4 obviously think we'd rather watch people getting drunk, stuffing their faces and farting while they watch the same drivel the rest of us are forced to watch all week.
