Things to make your life easier

I have always put in what I believed to be the most cost effective systems in my schools.

 

Anyways there may be some spare money if I can do produce a business case to support it. I cant ask for Super PC as I got one the other year

My system at that school works its nothing special 40pc's unifi wifi and a ranger network.

 

So my question is if you had a basic network like mine and you had some spare cash what would you buy to make things easier for you to manage it, make it better for the kids or teachers or anything to make it better.

My first thoughts are some remote software to make it easier for me to get in from home, but whats your thoughts?

Depends how much. Perhaps some sort of tablet/netbook/laptop combo for the students so they can roam around a bit and take IT into the classroom? (depending where the 40 PCs you have are, of course)?

I'd bin Ranger and save a wedge, unless it's fulfilling some super essential role. By which I mean, it may well be (haven't seen it in about 5 years now!)

 

Aside from that, how much you talking? Enough for a new SSD-filled death server of death?

You [ @MattDLEA ] need to look at what you have, what you WANT and what you NEED.

 

If there are only computers available to be shared, look into expanding to a full class capacity.

No laptops? Get some!

Is your infrastructure up to scratch?

Are you using the most recent software? [Or as recent as you're comfortable installing.]

 

Talk to the teachers, too. Some may have cool ideas of things they want to do in class, that you can facilitate with this extra money.

 

Remote access? TBH, that would be low on my priority. I'm not paid enough to be working for free in my spare time.[/opinion] Depending on your licences, you may actually be able to do that without paying too much [or anything at all].

Obvious ones are new UPS , better backups, server to house MDT/SCCM . Otherwise it depends on what you've got.

Seriously though; if you use tools, get some good ones. It will make life so much more pleasant than scabby old bent screwdrivers...
