Joanne Posted October 7, 2014 Posted October 7, 2014 Just munching on some walnuts and damn if they make my tongue sting. Other stuff irritates it too, like pineapple. Anyone else get this?
Miscbrah Posted October 7, 2014 Posted October 7, 2014 Yeah I find bhut jolokia chillies make my tongue tingle. Video, NSFW/kids/life:
hardtailstar Posted October 7, 2014 Posted October 7, 2014 have you cut your tongue? I had a minor cut and it would sting with certain foods.
X-13 Posted October 7, 2014 Posted October 7, 2014 The only times my tongue stings are when I drink coffee too fast or I've been eating a lot of something unnecessarily sugary [like honeycomb].
Joanne Posted October 7, 2014 Author Posted October 7, 2014 No cuts, but I do have indents all down the side as if it's scarred in some way. Kinda weird. I had some back teeth pulled/smashed out when I was like... 4. Wonder if my tongue was damaged with that.... I get it with skittles too... wonder if it is the acid....
Tesla Posted October 7, 2014 Posted October 7, 2014 Bromelain is what causes your tongue to hurt after eating pineapple... 1
elsiegee40 Posted October 7, 2014 Posted October 7, 2014 Google "Geographic Tongue"... it sounds like that.
sparkeh Posted October 7, 2014 Posted October 7, 2014 Pineapple for me. But actually they make the roof of my mouth sting for ages. I ate a sweet the other day that made the roof of my mouth sting and then peel off. Not pleasant...
Joanne Posted October 7, 2014 Author Posted October 7, 2014 Argh!! That's awful. Doesn't that mean you are allergic?
elsiegee40 Posted October 7, 2014 Posted October 7, 2014 Geographic tongue is the name of a condition that gets its name from its map-like appearance on the upper surface and sides of the tongue. It may occur in other areas of your mouth, as well. You'll be relieved to know that geographic tongue is a harmless, benign condition that isn't linked to any allergy, infection or cancer. Two other names for geographic tongue are benign migratory glossitis and erythema migrans. The telltale signs of geographic tongue are irregular, smooth, red patches on parts of the tongue. In some cases persons may experience pain or burning e.g. when eating hot, acidic, spicy or other kinds of foods (e.g. cheese, tomatoes, fruit, nuts): Seeing a dentist or doctor is the best way to rule out a more serious problem. In most cases, he or she can diagnose geographic tongue from a description of your symptoms and from examining your mouth and tongue. Check it out yourself 1
elsiegee40 Posted October 7, 2014 Posted October 7, 2014 Looks bob on to me! Probably a good idea to get a doctor or dentist to check it out though.... just in case it isn't this!
Tesla Posted October 7, 2014 Posted October 7, 2014 (edited) Best get inserting a disclaimer that none of us are of the medical profession and we aren't really supposed to be diagnosing via the power of google. lol. Edited October 7, 2014 by elsiegee40
elsiegee40 Posted October 7, 2014 Posted October 7, 2014 I do know someone with this condition, but I agree that a medical opinion is better than mine or any other edugeek's 1
Joanne Posted October 7, 2014 Author Posted October 7, 2014 dentist didn't mention anything when I went last. I've had it for as long as I can remember... BE REIGHT! I won't be sorry if I died tomorrow
Bompalompalomp Posted October 7, 2014 Posted October 7, 2014 I can't eat Kiwis because of this x10000. I eat pitayas instead when I get that flavour craving, way more expensive but so much nicer.
Garacesh Posted October 7, 2014 Posted October 7, 2014 I thought this was going to be a thread about well-crafted insults. Disappoint. Only time I get mouth pains is when I take too big a gulp of tea when I've just made it, or when I chow down on a pizza too quickly. Otherwise, I'm fine.
korifugi Posted October 7, 2014 Posted October 7, 2014 What about when you bite the corner off a cheese toastie? You know the next bite will fire superheated steam out of the hole, but it doesn't stop you...
Tesla Posted October 7, 2014 Posted October 7, 2014 Worse for me as i hate cold cheese( but love hot melted cheese, but if it's gone back to cold, yuck) so i cant even let it start to cool down!
Joanne Posted October 7, 2014 Author Posted October 7, 2014 I once got a pizza burn on my chin. Instead of pulling the hot cheese off my face I ran around the house screaming. What a k-n-o-b!
Joanne Posted October 7, 2014 Author Posted October 7, 2014 Check it. There be a full stop. I was calling myself that, right now
SYNACK Posted October 7, 2014 Posted October 7, 2014 I can't eat Kiwis because of this x10000. @Bompalompalomp - Phew that's a weight off my mind 4
tjay Posted October 8, 2014 Posted October 8, 2014 This looks plausible. Why do walnuts hurt the tongue? | Why
