Just munching on some walnuts and damn if they make my tongue sting. Other stuff irritates it too, like pineapple.

Anyone else get this?

The only times my tongue stings are when I drink coffee too fast or I've been eating a lot of something unnecessarily sugary [like honeycomb].

No cuts, but I do have indents all down the side as if it's scarred in some way. Kinda weird. I had some back teeth pulled/smashed out when I was like... 4. Wonder if my tongue was damaged with that....

I get it with skittles too... wonder if it is the acid....

Pineapple for me. But actually they make the roof of my mouth sting for ages.

I ate a sweet the other day that made the roof of my mouth sting and then peel off. Not pleasant...

Geographic tongue is the name of a condition that gets its name from its map-like appearance on the upper surface and sides of the tongue. It may occur in other areas of your mouth, as well.

You'll be relieved to know that geographic tongue is a harmless, benign condition that isn't linked to any allergy, infection or cancer. Two other names for geographic tongue are benign migratory glossitis and erythema migrans.

The telltale signs of geographic tongue are irregular, smooth, red patches on parts of the tongue. In some cases persons may experience pain or burning e.g. when eating hot, acidic, spicy or other kinds of foods (e.g. cheese, tomatoes, fruit, nuts):

Seeing a dentist or doctor is the best way to rule out a more serious problem. In most cases, he or she can diagnose geographic tongue from a description of your symptoms and from examining your mouth and tongue.

Check it out yourself :)

Best get inserting a disclaimer that none of us are of the medical profession and we aren't really supposed to be diagnosing via the power of google. lol. Edited by elsiegee40

dentist didn't mention anything when I went last. I've had it for as long as I can remember... BE REIGHT! I won't be sorry if I died tomorrow ;)

I thought this was going to be a thread about well-crafted insults. Disappoint.

Only time I get mouth pains is when I take too big a gulp of tea when I've just made it, or when I chow down on a pizza too quickly. Otherwise, I'm fine.

What about when you bite the corner off a cheese toastie? You know the next bite will fire superheated steam out of the hole, but it doesn't stop you...

Worse for me as i hate cold cheese( but love hot melted cheese, but if it's gone back to cold, yuck) so i cant even let it start to cool down!

I once got a pizza burn on my chin. Instead of pulling the hot cheese off my face I ran around the house screaming. What a k-n-o-b!
