vikpaw Posted October 6, 2014 Posted October 6, 2014 Oliver. If you have sims it's worth looking at MLS
Dkeen94 Posted October 7, 2014 Posted October 7, 2014 Eclipse from MLS (An old version, but we are looking at updating)
witch Posted October 7, 2014 Posted October 7, 2014 Eclipse. Online in one school, standalone in the other. Seems fine but in the online school we seem to pay a lot for support
network41 Posted October 7, 2014 Posted October 7, 2014 Oliver , had it for years never really had any problems with it.
localzuk Posted October 7, 2014 Posted October 7, 2014 We have Oliver here. The system itself is pretty good, as well as its integration in tools such as Renaissance Place. However, their pricing model somewhat infuriates me. Eg. They charge extra to have access to a "web api" to integrate it into your VLE.
stitch Posted October 7, 2014 Posted October 7, 2014 We use Eclipse from MLS. It seems to be a lot more user friendly than Heritage which we used to use.
win Posted October 7, 2014 Posted October 7, 2014 Eclipse.net (MLS) This seems to be the most popular here, haven't had any problems with it so far.
vikpaw Posted October 7, 2014 Posted October 7, 2014 We used to use Alice at my last school but Oliver seems better. One pain is that you have to pay to get reports customized or it's a PITA to do yourself. I saw MLS at BETT a couple of years ago, it was cheaper and looked really good. Now Capita have them look out for tighter integration with SIMS such as seeing which books a pupil has out from the student-teacher view.
GREED Posted October 7, 2014 Posted October 7, 2014 The three main options in the UK (the major players) are: MLS/Micro Librarian System Softlink's Oliver Heritage Circa
vikpaw Posted October 7, 2014 Posted October 7, 2014 I've added a poll to the thread, so it's easier to measure the results. I've split up MLS based on whether SIMS is the MIS in use, as i think that will make a difference to the viewpoint, if not now in the future. I doubt there are many non-SIMS users on the forum but... EDIT: forgot to say, even if you've replied, please vote as well. Thanks.
synaesthesia Posted October 7, 2014 Posted October 7, 2014 I shall of course hasten to point out that just because something is "popular" (perhaps "common" is a better word) does not mean it is the best.
vikpaw Posted October 7, 2014 Posted October 7, 2014 I shall of course hasten to point out that just because something is "popular" (perhaps "common" is a better word) does not mean it is the best. SIMS?
synaesthesia Posted October 7, 2014 Posted October 7, 2014 It's a good example of something widely used but often cursed, so yeah (Note: I don't mind SIMS, but then again I don't have to work with it often!)
kevin_lane Posted October 7, 2014 Author Posted October 7, 2014 Yea we use mls but I know they have had a few issues around the silver light was wondering if we went to a hosted solution would it be any better and also would the librarians lose any control over what they do and how does it tie into our ad and new intakes
