Speaker installation recommendations...?

I've been asked for an opinion on a sound system for this school hall...

They currently use:

 

1) An Amis 120XL 120W amp with four 30W TOA F-1300BT speakers (wall and rack mounted).

 

2) A Peavey XR684F powered mixer with two Peavey PV115 400W speakers (portable).

 

Apparently smoke was seen "billowing" from the Peavey, though it still works, and they've asked me if it's safe to use. I would guess not.

 

What they'd like is a decent fixed sound system they can use for guest speakers, musicals, school bands (with stage box) etc.

 

Any suggestions for kit or companies...?

We have 6 fixed speakers on the wall on a similarly sized hall, it connects to a denon amp and works well so far.

I don't know anyone who installs in your local area, but Steve at PA Systems, Speakers, Amplifiers | Laser Disco Lights, Band Stage Lighting - Astounded knows his stuff and has given me loads of 'sound' advice (pun intended!) His prices are always good too.

You want to avoid multiple speaker solutions for music. I'd be looking to get a couple of well controlled boxes up high on the proscenium*, angled down to give an even spread over the floor, but kept OFF the walls. This will help hugely with controlling unwanted reverberation, and will also help keep levels down.

 

Best bet is to get someone in to LISTEN to the room. You really can't tell from pictures.

 

*Unfortunately close to the corners, but probably unavoidable. It is possible a mono system with the speakers above the centre of the stage would suit.
