Trying to decide whether it's safe to press the big bad 'START THE UPGRADE' button........ How's everyone else finding it? Are Nvidia drivers still borked or has that been fixed now? Didn't realise there was an NVidia issue until after I installed, quick trip to website, latest driver and all ok!

Trapper Posted July 30, 2015 Posted July 30, 2015 About to wipe my work laptop and put 10 Enterprise on it. Well over a year this install of 8.1 was on it for. The longest in history. Back in the day I would re-install Windows 98 monthly due to the problems that cropped up.
Sheridan Posted July 30, 2015 Posted July 30, 2015 Just put 10 on my home PC and so far it's ok, apart from losing my Dolby control panel everything seems to work ok. Maybe it's just me, but seeing the 'Hi, we're just setting things up ' message and the remainders of Windows 8 (and 7 as well when you get down to it) made me realise this is a simple refresh rather than a radical new OS.

Was also kind of hoping they would have binned that c*ap. Good job it can be disabled with Group Policy!
gshaw Posted July 30, 2015 Posted July 30, 2015 (edited) Annoying that Cortana requires a Microsoft account. I guess MS are assuming it'll be disabled on business devices but a shame they still haven't twigged that if a user has an Azure AD login they don't want to be asked for a Microsoft account... ever. Been using my Win10 install today and tried the Tablet Mode option, not convinced that's going to look great on my Surface. Taskbar seems a waste of screen space and browser no longer touch friendly, ideally needs to resize some of its controls for tablet mode too. Edited July 30, 2015 by gshaw

When I upgraded it doesn't pick up my trackpad, only my touch screen so I had to plug in a mouse and find the drivers from the Acer website. Had a few software problems but a temporary registry edit got MS Money working again (while I find an equivalent) Unfortunately my Thinkpad crashed during install and had to revert back to Windows 7 pro. It died a second time setting up my account so I boot into a black empty window with no desktop or apps...
Trapper Posted July 30, 2015 Posted July 30, 2015 Hmmm my Alienware laptop is far more troublesome. Is there anyway to deselect updates? I can turn driver updates off, but I need some of them. I update my nVidia 860M with the latest official drivers - which worked fine. Windows Update after a manual run to get my NIC drivers overwrote it with the dodgy Windows Update one. I cannot find a way to deselect updates! I know this is Enterprise and they intend to let us do this in a domain - but come on! I thought they'd dumped them "Microsoft know what's best, you get the updates we tell you get"

comrade Posted July 31, 2015 Posted July 31, 2015 Both my machines activated. Have extracted the windows 10 keys, not sure if these can be used for a clean install. I also noticed once Windows 10 install is complete, there is am express settings button and a small custom settings link below, the express setting basically means lots of your data, including browsing history, is sent to Microsoft.

DrCheese Posted July 31, 2015 Posted July 31, 2015 It's pretty awesome when you think about it, I took my surface outside & was playing (using the xbox one controller) xbox games in the garden. There's no way the surface could play the games I was playing without it melting into a slag heap!

I have it, too. $Windows.~BT, 6.75GB (Size on Disk: 5.23GB) but I haven't been given the option yet. There is a Setup.exe inside the folder, though. Did you try running that? (Personally I'm not upgrading until I can get an actual activation key, I want the option of reimaging at will)
