unable to connect to the proxy server

This issue keeps popping up on student users.

I go onto the admin account internet works fine.

Log in as a student and the error "unable to connect to the proxy server" pops up.

 

Any quick simple solutions to this?

Yes, I will take a shot in the dark that you are asking pupils to use Google Chrome and it is the first time they will have logged into the PC. Get them to open IE and browse to a website, close it and then open chrome. We are having that issue here at the moment.

Nope even IE has the same problem its just random computers but only affecting student users.

Have you changed the proxy at any time in the past? If so, could they be picking up the old settings somewhere?

Group policy object pushing an old outdated proxy to students? Check Group policy.

Nope its a fresh new network not touched them settings. Has only just started happening and the primary domain error has started popping up but found a solution for that. This issue is just confusing me I thought I sorted it out yesterday but the same computer has got the issue again and now another one. Both computers are in the same room as well if that helps.

How is the proxy applied? Might still be a Group policy problem. Run the results checker and see what it shows for affected machines/users.

Remove a PC from domain and tes it. It really sounds like a GP proxy issue to me. Allow students to access internet options from control panel if you have it disabled in policy, log in as a student and check the connection settings in internet options. Check that they are the correct.

Not really great with commands what is the result checker? But to be honest if it is a group policy issue then why only 2 computers at the moment why not all of them?

Gonna take a stab in the dark myself and could be very wrong but is and does DNS work 100% and resolves hostname to ip addresses and visa versa ( so ip address to hostnames ) correctly ?

 

Presume they mean gpresult from the command prompt or similar : Group Policy - GPResult Examples - The Sysadmins

@andyturpie your solution has just worked!! but yesterday I did try internet Explorer and it came up with the same issue but done it again today and now its fine. welcome to the world of I.T.

But still is there an issue I am a newbie to all the technical stuff because I Have only just been employed as an I.T Technician at this school but with network manager responsibilities so yeah chucked in the deep end. Plus its a new network.

Probably irrelevant now, but this article explains how to use the results checker. I normally have Group Policy ready to launch from the taskbar on the relevant server.

 

I've had problems with policies not applying because *ahem* I forgot to add the user or machine to the relevant group.
