Looks lovely. Makes me hanker for the days when I used to ride a trail bike and then a Suzuki GT250 (back in the days when you didnt need to have passed the test to ride one!)

Hit 100 miles today going to see GOTG again! Also managed to half drop it inching round a corner trying to see past parked cars. Managed to lift it with half a tank full and keep it from hitting the ground, but it has a near-invisible scuff by the carrier. :( it might buff out!

 

More info: Yamaha YBR 125. No horrible accidents yet, knock on wood.

@plexer, it's the curse of the side plait! You're the third person to tell me that!

I'd actively advise against it. My mother buggered her ankle up by dropping her 700cc on her leg..

I want to learn to ride motorbikes.. I was looking at getting something like a Suzuki Marauder but for now I just don't have the money :(

I mentioned maybe doing a CBT to the hubster yesterday and he was like, "errr no. You said you almost had 2 people go into the side of you this morning in this massive bright red car. Imagine if you were on a bike." Oh yeah... too scared!

 

BUT LADIES ON BIKES ARE SOOOOO COOL!!!!!!!!!!!!

It's worth resigning yourself to the fact that as your first bike, you are going to drop it a few times...

 

if I EVER see you riding without full protective gear you will be in BIG trouble young lady! ...take it from a guy who had his knee destroyed in a motorcycle crash.

 

 

It's a nice little bike through, thought about getting a scottoiler for it?

Yes, this!! I might have avoided a whole lot of pain if I wasn't a complete idiot, that and the police will endlessly and quite rightly lecture you about it whilst your still lying in the road and make you feel half an inch small!

jkjk, I know. I'm saving up for some proper trousers, but I have an armoured leather jacket, gloves, good full face helmet and boots. I'll also get a proper winter jacket soon, it's freezing in the mornings!

Rode into work today, the kids are gossiping. ;)

Not thinking about a scottoiler, my mate's a mechanic who works for a bike place so he won't let me forget proper maintenance :)

 

I have had to prove I'm halfway competent because my mum had a near fatal crash on her commuter bike in the 80s. Only thing that saved her when a lorry cut her up was to dive off the bike and let it get crushed.

 

Keep the stories coming in @Bompalompalomp this sounds like the ideal bike for me for pottering about on, so I'd be interested in how things go.

Pretty great and lightweight, too. If I can pick it up with 3/4 fuel in, anyone can! Ridden 120 miles so far, used half the full tank it came with. (Does that sentence hurt you guys with cars?) Can't top up til payday so I can't go mental exploring until thursday. :(

i think that will only hurt people who drive 2.0L + Petrol cars who cant do above 30mpg...... :p

^^^ This a thousand times. Come off at any speed and you'll be through flesh in half a second, down to bone in 1 second. Jeans are OK for walking about town, but no good on a bike.

As you're in the midlands area please remember that you can't ride on the Aston Expressway with L plates, as it is a motorway. My only other advice is don't be a hero and try to ride when its icy or snowing, it isn't fun and is simply not worth the risk. Do however get some mileage in the wet, it does make you a better rider.

Years ago I had to put my GT250 down on a roundabout (..might have been going a bit fast....) and I survived with just a few bruises as I was wearing full leathers and Bellstaffs. The guy riding pillion wasn't so lucky as he wasn't wearing protective gear. Mind you, sticking his leg out as the bike went down didn't really help :)

@witch - You survived a GT250? Did ANY of them go around corners?

Well, sometimes :) I saw one the other day - I was surprised at how big it was - about the size of a 400 today, I reckon. Mine was so heavy that if it fell over I went over with it. Once I was at a junction and it fell over - the driver of the bus behind me had to get out and lift it up for me!

1.8, just able to scrape 34mpg but even my bike (MT03) doesn't get over 55mpg. I'm weeping I tells ya.

 

(and just to add to the wear protective gear, a typical road surface will go through unprotected human flesh and bone at 25mm a second at 30mph. Never get on a bike without proper gloves, a jacket, trousers and boots. Never.)
