I like the ability to stream something to apple tv without having to connect to the same wireless network. That's good for visitors we have in school who always seem to want to connect their ipads to the projectors, lately. Although admittedly it requires the visitors to have updated their devices which in most cases is doubtful.

iTunes won't install updates that have been tampered with, so it's perfectly safe.

And of course, none of the other vendors have ever done that. Or left almost brand new phones high and dry with no updates whatsoever.

My iPhone 5 has gone through iOS 6, iOS 7 and now its on iOS 8 and it is not crippled. Works great

It won't install on my iPhone 4 or the wife's 3GS, but I do have an iPad 3 that the wife and kids use. However, I have jailbroken it as they like to use XBMC on the iPad, so I'm not too sure whether I'll bother with the update or not. Might update it once there is a jailbreak for iOS 8 so that I can reinstall XBMC for the kids.
