Marshall_IT Posted September 16, 2014 Posted September 16, 2014 So are we all ready for the next release of apple's iOS? I've been testing my caching server this week to hopefully reduce the load of around 800 iPads rushing to download it!

I thought about blocking the update URL from the staff and student vlans, but so far they all seem to be using the caching server.

Quackers Posted September 16, 2014 Posted September 16, 2014 I've been running the GM of iOS 8 since last week, loving it on my iPhone 5 but iPad Air it does not feel ready yet, and 5Ghz WiFi aint great and a few others on macrumors have seen issues with the Air on 5Ghz.

Not cynical at all. Tbh, looking at what's in this release, there is absolutely nothing that I. An see that would benefit the school or any of our students. And on a personal level the only excitement for me, if you could call it that, is for the 3rd party keyboards. Something that actually allows development from other parties than apple lol.

What about iCloud Drive, AirDrop between iOS and OS X, iOS to Mac screen capture, peer-to-peer AirPlay discovery and playback, App Store ad blocking, new accessibility features, the ability to push out ePub and PDF documents via MDM tools. Using Apple's keyboard makes me want to smash the iPads screen against a hard surface. It's horrendous!
Marshall_IT Posted September 16, 2014 Author Posted September 16, 2014 Thanks Arthur, I've somehow missed those little things... Some of the mac to iPad things are not so applicable to us as we don't hAve many macs. and I can already publish files to the iPads using airwatch MDM.
Marshall_IT Posted September 16, 2014 Author Posted September 16, 2014 The peer to peer airplay is something that worries me, airdrop already causes a headache with students sending files / messages when they shouldn't and It can't be blocked because it's perr2peer.

Does this mean what I think it means for BYOD in schools ? e.g. it's going to make it harder to track/block devices based on MAC ?
