Projector (perhaps LED) recommendations

Hi,

 

we have an ageing population of mainly Epson long throw projectors which require bulb replacements at quite high cost fairly regularly.

 

Are there any projector models people would recommend (perhaps LED) from the point of view of keeping long term costs down?.

We have Casio XJ-M140's site wide here and never had one break or had to change a bulb ever

 

I've been thinking about moving towards the Casio Short Throw LED projectors but their up front costs are quite a lot and we have no reason yet as the old ones simply don't break!

We have Casio XJ-A145s site wide here, had 2 replaced due to faulty part but that is all after 3 years they have been superb and the Teaching staff just love them for their clarity and ease of use,

 

They also do the M series as @zag has mentioned

I'd recommend the M series over the A series as the early A ones were notorious for overheating.

 

Not sure if they fixed the issue since then but I've never had that problem with the larger M series.

Never had a problem with the AJ145s it was the A130s that had the problem!

 

Plus the zoom quality on the A series is far superior to the M series as we found out when we actually tried one, we had to move the bracket to accommodate the lack of Zoom on the M series and that is why we decided to buy the AJ145s as we didn't have to move the brackets and it only took 10 mins per device to fit.

@cgilmour , can you provide throw distance , aspect ratio and inputs you require on the projector ? I will happily then make some suggestions.

 

Projector bulbs tend to always be cheaper when he projector models are current - My assumption as this is supply / demand cost. The older the projector gets the more expensive the bulbs get.

 

If refreshing a fleet of projectors and not going down the casio route, I would consider buying bulbs for your deployment at the outset.

The new Casio Ultra Short Throw isn't too much more over the cost of an Epson. If you were going for UST I'd definitely recommend the Casio XJ-UT310WN.

We have Casio's in every class and have been brilliant purchase .Though we are starting to introduce Phillips 65" Led touch screens. Just had one fitted for Reception and the clarity is exceptional. Suffice to say various staff members now wanting one in their classrooms .

Hi Chris,

 

I would recommend the Casio XJ-M131 or above. This is one of the cheapest LED projectors and still has 2000 lumens with a 5yr warranty. I haven't seen one break yet.

The early A series had some heat problems but we've not had a problem since. From memory the A series tend to have a longer throw ratio which maybe something you need. I would be happy to put in the a series these days.

 

If you're just replying projector the. This will be cost effective. If you're replacing interactive board AND projector then touchscreens should could less / better value
