Welcome Screen on a domain

Hi All,

 

A teacher has requested to have an icon she can click to log in (like on a workgroup machine) rather than typing her user name & password (machines are connected to a domain). I'm pretty sure this isn't possible with domain connected machines but if anyone knows a way please shout up.

Correct, for obvious security reasons. Does she have a good reason for doing this? If so, biometric login perhaps?

If she's constantly forgetting her password, you could try getting a smart card plus reader for her?

Not really, it's just that she wants to be able to log in faster...

Ask her if her bank provide 'an icon' she can just click to log in faster.

use pstools auto logon to automatically log her on. I give it a day before the magical "hacker" fairies attack her account and delete kids from sims and forward her emails to everyone in her address book.

I take it "Are you nuts?" wouldn't be considered an acceptable response?

Just tell her its not possible, and if it was, there would be a massive security issue possibly violating school policy

Remember last username turned on and no password would do the trick. Not secure, but works.

Tell her to get a grip and buy here a copy of mavis beacons and learn to type quicker ?

Security implications aside, you could enable AutoAdminLogon registry key and associated values as described here. This will automatically log the specified user on to the PC at boot up - it doesn't give anyone else the option to logon. In addition to the obvious account security problems, this method stores the user's password in plain text in the registry.
