Hi

I want to do my data analysis in assesment managerr. However with the embargo on I wont be able to do it the day before.

Can I temporarily lift the embargo then add it back on again or if I make myself the exception to the embargo can I view the data in assesment manager?

You need to name yourself as an exception to the embargo.

Thanks that worked. I thought that doing the exception to the embargo that I won't be able to view any data in assessment manager but I am still able to and other people cannot see anything in SIMS

At risk of being annoying for the sake of it, I take it you are an Exams officer or similar? My recollection is that with the exception of the Exams Officers, the first people to see the results in any way shape or form are the students? Hence why the embargo exists...

Nope. Today our Exams Officer has seen the results, SLT have seen the results and I (the data manager) have seen the results. Exams day would grind to a halt without access to the data otherwise I cannot generate the headline figures in time for distribution to the media and SLT. Still on a need to know basis so teachers can't see them.

Kinda my suggestion that there is a limited need to know basis and so my question directed to the OP was are you in this group or not. I'd be interested to know official guidance on that because my belief/recollection is there is a set group of individuals that are allowed to see the data before students, and that is not open to interpretation. In addition, people outside the group are they seeing individual or aggregated data?

I line manage data and exams and been sitting with the head of centre all day about A level results.

Only myself the assistant head for data head of sixth form and the head can see the results

The catch all 'anyone else the HoC deems needs to see the results early' is so that HoDs can do comparative checks against predicted data and highlight any issues to the HoC (including the need to have papers remarked or raise noted complaints to awarding bodies).

Lots of reasons for this, including providing advice for students ... and it would be impossible to generate advice and release results in the same day for some institutes due to size.

I queried this in July as had a suspicion....as mentioned above, Capita confirmed that the embargo does not apply to marksheets. (Head in hands). We also do our initial analysis out of AM!

I think the embargo would apply to the relevant exams result set, so you might find that values in that resultset would still be hidden in marksheets. Don't know though.

That said, you could do the analysis in excel using the output from pi reports.

Nope, the embargo doesn't apply to any Aspects/Result Sets in Assessment unfortunately.

Not even exam aspects and result sets. :)

That's why they recommend deleting all assessment marksheets which use Exam Aspects prior to results day.

Oh dear. Not what you'd expect!

My analysis stuff is based on an export of AM7 data, but for exams I use the pi output so I'm safe on this one :) the other way is to risk it by copying into an exams resultset and then deleting all the results sharpish, I suppose...

It's not what I expect either. Results pre-embargo date should be blank. @CarpeDiem please let me have the case number so I can check on the advice you were given. Clearly there could be a bug but I would have expected to have been deafened by complaints if this feature wasn't working as it should.

Been looking for the notes I made but can't find them now, so I will go back on what I said and admit I might be wrong. I am sure that I've seen a warning somewhere about it though, so if I find it I will post it up!

Hi @PhilNeal, we don't have direct access to CAPITA (it is all handled by our LA) so I do not have a ref unfortunately. However, as mentioned above, we were advised to delete all marksheets prior to Results Day, something we aren't prepared to do, as our HoDs/Co-Ords collect their results after the embargo and then go straight back to their desks to start analysing the results from marksheets.

I think you've been given the wrong advice but I can't tell if it's our desk or your support team.

There is no way that you should have to delete mark sheets.

Please ask your team to raise this directly with me so I can check things out.
