genesis Posted August 12, 2014 Posted August 12, 2014 Hi I want to install Google earth on my new window 7 PCs. Can you post me link to download a appropriate Google earth version for a secondary school. I heard of Google pro earth is this a free version for schools is that true? Thanks
Oaktech Posted August 12, 2014 Posted August 12, 2014 We've removed it altogether because all the kids did was spend their time playing the flight sim on it and stalking one another on streetview. To my knowledge the only version available truly for free is the standard one. Pro is a pay for version for everyone but there are significant discounts or grants for education. fairm010 Posted August 12, 2014 Posted August 12, 2014 Same as Oaktech here but to be honest the functionality we needed in Google Earth Google Maps now provides so we are happy with that.
3s-gtech Posted August 12, 2014 Posted August 12, 2014 In my images, I renamed the 'fs' folder in the \res directory. Voila, flightsim won't load. You can set this via GPP too. Streetview stalking I can't stop. 1
AJWhite1970 Posted August 12, 2014 Posted August 12, 2014 You can either disable it for everyone by renaming/deleting this folder:- C:\Program Files\Google\Google Earth\client\res\flightsim or you can restrict student access to this file:- C:\Program Files\Google\Google Earth\client\res\flightsim\flightsim.ini Andrew
genesis Posted August 12, 2014 Author Posted August 12, 2014 I have renamed it as C:\Program Files\Google\Google Earth\client\res\flightsim.old Is this right?
Arthur Posted August 12, 2014 Posted August 12, 2014 Is this right? Yes, although the Plugin folder also contains a copy of the flight sim (Google\Google Earth\plugin\res\flightsim). Depending on how you deploy Google Earth, you could also use the attached MST to delete both 'flightsim' folders so you don't have to do it post-install.Disable Google Earth Flight Sim (v7.1.2.2041).mst 1
genesis Posted August 13, 2014 Author Posted August 13, 2014 I am building a windows7 image and this will be master image and I will be pushing this image to all PCs. If I open the attached file it is saying window cant open this file. Please suggest
Arthur Posted August 14, 2014 Posted August 14, 2014 If I open the attached file it is saying Windows cannot open this file. Either run the command below or deploy the MSI and MST using Group Policy, SCCM etc. msiexec /i "Google Earth.msi" TRANSFORMS="Disable Google Earth Flight Sim.mst" ALLUSERS=1 DESKTOPSHORTCUT=0 INSTALLTOOLBARNOW=0 REBOOT=ReallySuppress /qb! If using Group Policy, you may want to add the additional properties listed above to the MST using InstEd or Orca.
genesis Posted August 19, 2014 Author Posted August 19, 2014 Hi I have already installed Google earth on a windows 7 PC and when I copy the above command and enter it in the command prompt it says "This installation package cannot opened. Verify that the package exists ad that you can access it , or contact the application vendor to verify that this is a valid windows installer package" Please suggest if I am doing something wrong.
